Aims: This study aimed to describe clinical features and outcomes of patients presenting to the emergency department with analytically confirmed methamphetamine intoxication, to determine the blood concentration of methamphetamine and to test its association with clinical findings.
Design: The Western Australian Illicit Substance Evaluation (WISE) study is a prospective observational cohort study.
Setting: Royal Perth Hospital Emergency Department, Perth, Australia, between 2016 and 2018.
Objective: Trampolines are popular among children, but trampoline injuries constitute a large number of emergency department visits. The purpose of this study was to determine how often neck injuries occur among children with trampoline-related injuries and to identify the mechanism of injury.
Methods: We analyzed the National Electronic Injury Surveillance System (NEISS) database to characterize patient demographics, injury types, injury subsite, and emergency department disposition status associated with trampoline related neck injuries between 2012 and 2021 in the United States.
Remediation of preclinical course failures in the DVM program at Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine began in 2010. We set out to understand whether some students were more likely than others to use remediation opportunities and succeed. Student demographics, undergraduate (UG) experiences, including institution attended and major studied, UG performance as measured by grade point average (uGPA), and extent of academic difficulties in DVM years 1-3 were studied at univariate levels to determine which students more often failed ≥1 courses, remediated ≥1 courses, and were successful in all remediation attempts.

At Purdue University College of Veterinary Medicine, a remediation policy in the preclinical years of the DVM program was implemented beginning with the class of 2014. We evaluated its impact on our DVM program and student outcomes.

Human-induced climate change, and other human activities in the region, are leading to several potential interacting tipping points with major and irreversible consequences. Here, we examine eight potential physical, biological, chemical, and social Antarctic tipping points.

There has been a rise in the popularity of lip tie division without clear expert agreement on the indications and benefits of treatment. Our study aims to determine the quality of information on YouTube about lip ties.

Here we present Remoscope, a portable automated imaging cytometer that scans fresh, unstained whole blood using a custom neural network on low-cost hardware. By screening up to two million red blood cells, Remoscope performs label-free quantitative stage-specific detection of () in 1-12 minutes without sample fixation, staining, or slide scanning.

Both methods have drawbacks, where, electromagnetic tracking is slow and immobile, while 3D scanners are expensive. Photogrammetry offers a cost-effective alternative but requires multiple photos to sample the head, with good spatial sampling to adequately reconstruct the head surface.

A structurally misassigned epimer of CymA (CymA'), Cyclomarin C, and Metamarin were also synthesized. Affirmation of the syntheses was corroborated by observations that the synthetic molecules have antimicrobial activities mirroring those of the natural products.

The South American archaeological record has ample evidence of the socio-cultural dynamism of human populations in the past. This has also been supported through the analysis of ancient genomes, by showing evidence of gene flow across the region. While the extent of these signals is yet to be tested, the growing number of ancient genomes allows for more fine-scaled hypotheses to be evaluated.

We hypothesize that, in the resting state, cortical hyperexcitability increases firing-rate correlations between neuronal populations within seizure onset zones (SOZs). This hypothesis predicts that in the gamma frequency band (40-200 Hz), amplitude envelope correlations (AECs), a relatively straightforward measure of functional connectivity, should be elevated within SOZs compared to other areas.

These studies have been met both with interest and critically, particularly by populations with oral histories that are records of their past and often reference their origins. While several studies have reported concordance between oral and genetic histories, there is potential for tension that may stem from genetic histories being prioritized or used to confirm community-based knowledge and ethnography, especially if they differ.

Here we present a case series of bacteriologically proven extra-intestinal salmonellosis managed at our institute over the past two years.

Somatic mutants of calreticulin (CRT) drive myeloproliferative neoplasms (MPNs) via binding to the thrombopoietin receptor (MPL) and aberrant activation of the JAK/STAT pathway. Compared with healthy donors, platelets from mutant CRT-expressing patients with MPN display low cell surface MPL. Additionally, coexpression of MPL with an MPN-linked CRT mutant (CRTDel52) reduces cell surface MPL, suggesting that CRTDel52 may induce MPL degradation.

Inhibitors targeting FLT3 (FLT3i) are being used to treat patients with FLT3-ITD+ but most relapse and become resistant. To elucidate the resistance mechanism, we compared the gene regulatory networks (GRNs) of leukemic cells from patients before and after relapse, which revealed that the GRNs of drug-responsive patients were altered by rewiring their AP-1-RUNX1 axis.

The stress-strain curve of biological soft tissues helps characterize their mechanical behavior. The yield point on this curve is when a specimen breaches its elastic range due to irreversible microstructural damage. The yield point is easily found using the offset yield method in traditional engineering materials.

However, not all patients benefit from ICIs and can experience immune-related adverse events (irAEs). Limited understanding exists for germline determinants of ICI efficacy and toxicity, but Human Leukocyte Antigen (HLA) genes have emerged as a potential predictive biomarker.
