Despite the waning of traditional treatments for glioma due to possible long-term issues, the healing possibilities of substances derived from nature have been reignited in the scientific community. These natural substances, commonly found in fruits and vegetables, are considered potential alternatives to pharmaceuticals, as they have been shown in prior research to impact pathways surrounding cancer progression, metastases, invasion, and resistance. This review will explore the supposed molecular mechanisms of different natural components, such as berberine, curcumin, coffee, resveratrol, epigallocatechin-3-gallate, quercetin, tanshinone, silymarin, coumarin, and lycopene, concerning glioma treatment.

Natural-derived biomaterials can be used as substrates for the growth, proliferation, and differentiation of cells. In this study, bovine vitreous humor as a biological material was cross-linked to silk fibroin with different concentration ratios to design a suitable substrate for corneal tissue regeneration. The cross-linked samples were evaluated with different analyses such as structural, physical (optical, swelling, and degradation), mechanical, and biological (viability, cell adhesion) assays.

Occupational stress is a complex concept resulting from interaction among personnel, work environment, and cultural contexts. It can cause mental health issues, including clinical mental disorders, as well as emotional challenges like depression, anxiety, cognitive difficulties, and feeling sad. As a vulnerable group, healthcare professionals, especially nurses, experience a high rate of occupational stress.

Article Synopsis
  • MicroRNAs (miRNAs) have gained attention for their role in cancer, acting as either oncogenes or tumor suppressors, particularly in angiosarcoma and other cardiovascular tumors.
  • The review discusses the current research on miRNAs, focusing on their diagnostic, prognostic, and therapeutic potentials, while also outlining the risk factors and molecular mechanisms associated with angiosarcoma.
  • Future research should compare miRNAs to existing diagnostic and prognostic methods to optimize their application in treating angiosarcoma and cardiovascular tumors.

Background: Responsiveness to the population's non-clinical needs encompasses various dimensions, including responsive research and an educational outreach plan at the community level. This study aims to develop a community-responsive research model in the healthcare system to ensure the connection between community-identified health priorities and research funds, as well as capacity-building efforts.

Methods: A mixed-methods research study was conducted in three main phases, including a comprehensive literature review, a qualitative analysis of an expert panel's points of view, and the developing of a model using the Equation Modeling (SEM) technique.

Glaucoma, the leading cause of irreversible blindness globally, affects more than 70 million people across the world. When initial treatments prove ineffective, especially for cases with high intraocular pressure (IOP), the preferred approach involves employing glaucoma drainage devices (GDDs). This study introduces a novel self-adjustable glaucoma drainage device (SAGDD) designed to maintain IOP within the desired biological range (10 mmHg < IOP <18 mmHg) by dynamically modulating its fluidic resistance.

Article Synopsis
  • Peroxisomes are key organelles involved in lipid metabolism, specifically in the breakdown of very long-chain fatty acids that mitochondria cannot process; inhibition of the enzyme ACOX1 in young rats impacts brain fatty acid composition and neuronal activity, mirroring changes seen in aging.
  • ACOX1 was selectively inhibited using TDYA in male Wistar rats over 25 days, leading to notable changes in brain fatty acid levels, with increased levels of certain fatty acids and decreased levels of others, signifying an altered lipid profile.
  • The inhibition of ACOX1 resulted in reduced excitability of neuronal cells, as evidenced by changes in resting membrane potential and action potential properties, highlighting the importance of peroxisome

Background: Responsiveness is relevant in the context of treatment and the provision of medical services. However, if we delve deeper into the subject, we must establish and develop responsiveness within the medical sciences education system. This study aims to identify the dimensions that significantly impact responsiveness in the medical education system based on a comprehensive review and expert opinions in healthcare.

The testicular niche, which includes the germ cells, somatic cells, and extracellular matrix, plays a crucial role in maintaining the proper functions of the testis. Gonadotoxic treatments, such as chemotherapy and radiation therapy, have significantly improved the survival rates of cancer patients but have also been shown to have adverse effects on the testicular microenvironment. Therefore, repairing the testicular niche after gonadotoxic treatments is essential to restore its function.

The most frequent infections caused by Pseudomonas aeruginosa are local infections in soft tissues, including burns. Today, phage use is considered a suitable alternative to cure infections caused by multi-drug-resistant (MDR) and extensively drug-resistant (XDR) bacteria. We investigated the potential of a novel phage (vB_PaS-HSN4) belonging to Caudoviricetes class, against XDR and MDR P.

In this study, a lactose fatty acid ester was enzymatically synthesised using immobilized lipase (CRL). Its anticancer property against K562 leukemia and HeLa cancer cells was carefully investigated. In the first step, a strategy was applied to encapsulate CRL into a microporous zeolite imidazolate framework called ZIF-8.

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that is the main form of dementia. Abnormal deposition of amyloid-beta (Aβ) peptides in neurons and synapses cause neuronal loss and cognitive deficits. We have previously reported that ferroptosis and necroptosis were implicated in Aβ neurotoxicity, and their specific inhibitors had attenuating effects on cognitive impairment induced by Aβ neurotoxicity.
