Among individuals receiving an adequate pharmacological treatment for Major Depressive Disorder (MDD), only 30% reach a full symptom recovery; the remaining 70% will experience either a pharmacological response without remission or no response at all thus configuring treatment resistant depression (TRD). After an inadequate response to an antidepressant, possible next step options include optimizing the dose of the current antidepressant, switching to a different antidepressant, combining antidepressants, or augmenting with a non-antidepressant medication. Metacognition refers to the cognitive ability to control, monitor and modulate cognitive processes thus guiding and orienting behavior: a continuum of mental activities that ranges from more discrete ones, such as the awareness of the accuracy of others' judgment, to more integrated activities, such as the knowledge of cognitive processes. Metacognition impairment in schizophrenia, which is considered a core feature of the illness, has become a growing research field focusing on a wide range of processes including reasoning, autobiographical memory, memory biases, cognitive beliefs and clinical insight. There is a well-established relationship between metacognition and schizophrenia symptoms severity, as well as between impaired metacognitive functioning and specific symptomatic sub-domains, such as positive symptoms, negative symptoms, or disorganization.

Even though resistance switching memories (RRAMs) can be potentially employed in a broad variety of fields, such as electronics and brain science, they are still affected by issues that prevent their application in circuitry. These problems are a consequence of the lack of detailed knowledge about the physical processes occurring in the device. In this work, we propose multiscale simulations, combining kinetic Monte Carlo and finite difference methods, to shed light on the yet-unclear switching process occurring in the valence change RRAMs, which are believed to work as a consequence of the drift and diffusion of crystalline defects that act as dopants.

Two-dimensional MoS2 is a promising material for nanoelectronics and catalysis, but its potential is not fully exploited since proper control of its multiple phases (H, T, ZT) and electronic properties is lacking. In this theoretical study, alloying is proposed as a method to stabilize the MoS2 T-phase. In particular, MoS2 is alloyed with another material that is known to exist in a monolayer MX2 T-structure, and we show that the formation energy difference among phases decreases even for low impurity concentrations in MoS2, and a relationship between impurity concentration and alloy band gap is established.

A retrospective view was undertaken of 18 episodes of P. aeruginosa exit site infections developing in 17 patients maintained on CAPD during 1989 and 1990.
