HER2-low status and response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy in HER2 negative early breast cancer.

Purpose: Knowledge on whether low expressions of HER2 have prognostic impact in early-stage breast cancer (BC) and on its response to current chemotherapy protocols can contribute to medical practice and development of new drugs for this subset of patients, changing treatment paradigms. This study aims to evaluate the impact of HER2-low status on response to neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NACT) and survival outcomes in early-stage HER2-negative BC.

Methods: Records from all BC patients treated with NACT from January 2007 to December 2018 in a single cancer center were retrospectively reviewed.

Comparison of dose-dense vs. 3-weekly paclitaxel and carboplatin in the first-line treatment of ovarian cancer in a propensity score-matched cohort.

Background: Benefit of carboplatin and dose-dense weekly paclitaxel (ddCT) in first line treatment of ovarian cancer patients has been different in Western and Asian studies. In the present study we compare progression-free survival (PFS) of ddCT to three-weekly carboplatin and paclitaxel (CT) in first-line treatment of ovarian carcinoma in a single institution in a Western population.

Materials And Methods: We conducted a retrospective review of medical records from patients with ovarian carcinoma treated in a tertiary cancer center from 2007 to 2018.

Immunotherapy as Single Treatment for Patients With NSCLC With Brain Metastases: A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis-the META-L-BRAIN Study.

Introduction: Brain metastases (BMs) occur in 40% of patients with lung cancer. The activity of immunotherapy in these patients, however, remains controversial, as the cornerstone treatment is radiotherapy (RT). Because RT is associated with adverse events that may impair the quality of life, the possibility of substituting it with a single systemic approach is attractive.

Impact of BRCA1/2 Mutations on the Efficacy of Secondary Cytoreductive Surgery.

Background: Phase III trials evaluating the role of secondary cytoreductive surgery (SCS) in recurrent ovarian cancer have pointed to the importance of patient selection. Two studies showed conflicting results regarding the benefit of SCS in BRCA1/2 mutation carriers. Our aim was to evaluate the impact of SCS on recurrent ovarian cancer according to BRCA1/2 status.

Anticoagulant-related nephropathy: systematic review and meta-analysis.

Background: The aim of this study was to report the prevalence and mortality associated with anticoagulant-related nephropathy (ARN) through a systematic review of the literature.

Methods: Electronic searches were conducted in the Medline and EMBASE databases, and manual searches were performed in the reference lists of the identified studies. The studies were selected by two independent researchers, first by evaluating the titles and abstracts and then by reading the complete texts of the identified studies.

Development, validation and clinical application of a HPLC-FL method for CYP2D6 phenotyping in South Brazilian breast cancer patients.

Objective: To develop and validate a method for determination of dextromethorphan (DMT) and dextrorphan (DTP) in plasma samples using HPLC-FL and to apply it to CYP2D6 phenotyping of a population from the South of Brazil.

Methods: Samples were prepared by hydrolysis and liquid-liquid extraction. Analysis was conducted in a reversed phase column, with isocratic elution and fluorescence detection.
