Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to determine if scapular movement training (SMT) is more effective than standardized exercises in improving shoulder pain and biomechanics in individuals.
  • 64 patients with chronic shoulder pain participated in either SMT or standardized exercises over 8 weeks, with various assessments made at different time points.
  • Results showed that while SMT led to minor changes in scapular movement and muscle activity, both SMT and standardized exercises produced similar improvements in pain, disability, and psychological factors related to the condition.
  • Conclusions indicate that SMT is not significantly better than standardized exercises for treating shoulder pain.

Article Synopsis
  • The study aimed to evaluate the measurement properties of the Brazilian versions of the Fear-avoidance Beliefs Questionnaire (FABQ) and the Tampa Scale of Kinesiophobia (TSK) for individuals with shoulder pain.
  • The researchers used various methods, including exploratory factor analysis and reliability tests, to assess the validity and consistency of the questionnaires.
  • Results indicated that the FABQ is multidimensional while the TSK is unidimensional, both showing moderate to good reliability; however, their responsiveness was deemed suboptimal.

Objective: The Disabilities of the Arm, Shoulder and Hand (DASH) questionnaire is widely used to assess patients with symptoms of subacromial pain syndrome (SPS). No study has analyzed the DASH by using the Rasch model in these patients and related the level of difficulty of the items with the International Classification of Functioning Disability and Health (ICF) domains. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the measurement properties of the DASH in individuals with SPS and to describe which ICF components are influenced by SPS based on the DASH.
