The microencapsulation of Lactocaseibacillus rhamnosus GG in a matrix of sodium alginate, xanthan gum, gum arabic and chitosan hydrochloride is a promising strategy for protecting this probiotic during passage through the gastrointestinal tract. This study evaluated the influence on the viability of Lactocaseibacillus rhamnosus GG encapsulated with these polymers by external ionic gelation with vibratory extrusion and the microcapsules that showed the best results of capsulation efficiency, viability, size and morphology were analyzed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), thermal analysis (TGA) and exposure to environmental stress conditions and gastrointestinal simulation. The result revealed encapsulation efficiency values above 95 % for all formulations and survival rate higher than 6 log CFU/mL for most analyzed groups.

Therefore, this study aimed to review the SNPs applications in nanomaterials and nanoformulations in dentistry, discussing their effect on physicochemical properties, biocompatibility and ability to nanocarry bioactive substances.
Data Resources: Literature searches were conducted on PubMed, Web of Science, and Scopus databases to identify studies examining the physicochemical and biological properties of dental materials and formulations containing SNPs.
Objective: The aim of the present study was to evaluate clinical and embryo parameters to predict embryo ploidy.
Methods: In this retrospective analysis, we studied 838 biopsied day-5 blastocysts from 219 patients in the period from May 2021 to July 2022. All embryos were morphologically classified before biopsy and were divided into two groups according to genetic test results.
Objective: To evaluate severe acute respiratory syndrome surveillance in a pediatric unit.
Methods: Descriptive study of reported severe acute respiratory syndrome cases with the detection of respiratory viruses in the nasopharyngeal sample of patients hospitalized between 2013 and 2019, in a reference hospital in the Federal District, Brazil.
Results: A total of 269 children had one or more viruses detected, resulting in 280 viruses, of which 152 (54%) were respiratory syncytial virus.
Objective: In this study a dentistry nanocomposite with prolonged antibacterial activity using silica nanoparticles (SNPs) loaded with chlorhexidine (CHX) was developed.
Methods: SNPs were coated with the Layer-by-Layer technique. Dental composites were prepared with organic matrix of BisGMA/TEGDMA and SNPs with or without CHX (0, 10, 20 or 30% w/w).
Teledermatology has developed rapidly in recent years and is nowadays an essential tool for early diagnosis. In this work, we aim to improve existing Teledermatology processes for skin lesion diagnosis by developing a deep learning approach for risk prioritization with a dataset of retrospective data from referral requests of the Portuguese National Health System. Given the high complexity of this task, we propose a new prioritization pipeline guided and inspired by domain knowledge.

The impact of the addition of L. acidophilus La-05 (free cells, microencapsulated with alginate [30 g/L] or microencapsulated with alginate coated with chitosan [5 g/L]) on the quality parameters of spreadable goat Ricotta cheese during storage (7 °C/7 days) was evaluated. The addition of probiotic culture resulted in products with lower hardness, gumminess, and springiness, as well as higher cohesiveness and adhesiveness.

Methods: We ran a prospective study with 124 infertile women, aged 24-48 years, from 2017 to 2018. The patients were divided into 3 groups according to age and the subgroups were compared for AMH, AFC, number of A+B embryos.

Most papillary thyroid carcinomas (PTC) harbor excellent prognosis. Although rare, distant metastases normally occur in lungs and/or bones. Here we describe a rare case of pancreatic metastasis presenting with rapid onset cholestatic syndrome.

Titania was immobilized on aluminum surfaces from recyclable materials and the results were compared with the suspension system. The initial concentration of photocatalyst and the oxidizing agent was optimized in a 2 experimental design and a kinetic study of the reactions was performed in the selected conditions.

Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the effects of three different luteal phase support protocols with estrogen on the pregnancy rates and luteal phase hormone profiles of patients undergoing in vitro fertilization-embryo transfer (IVF-ET) cycles. A secondary objective was to evaluate which ovarian reserve markers correlated with pregnancy rates.
Methods: This retrospective observational study was carried out at a private tertiary reproductive medicine teaching and research center.
Background: Venous thromboembolism (VTE) is a cause for growing concern in hospitals, has great impact on morbidity and mortality in clinical and surgical patients, and is the leading cause of preventable hospital deaths. Although there are risk assessment models for hospital inpatients, prophylaxis is still underused or is administered incorrectly.
Objectives: To assess the risk profile for VTE in recently hospitalized clinical and surgical patients and evaluate the thromboprophylactic measures implemented in the first 24 hours of hospitalization.
Background: Solitary functioning kidney (SFK) is an important condition in the spectrum of congenital anomalies of the kidney and urinary tract. The aim of this study was to describe the risk factors for renal injury in a cohort of patients with congenital SFK.
Methods: In this retrospective cohort study, 162 patients with SFK were systematically followed up (median, 8.
Purpose: To determine the release profile of moxifloxacin encapsulated in liposomes in the aqueous humor as a controlled release system for intracameral application.
Methods: Liposomes containing moxifloxacin were obtained using the lipid film hydration method and were characterized by particle size and encapsulation efficiency. Female rabbits were used for the in vivo profile release study.
Background: Posterior urethral valves (PUVs) are associated with severe consequences to the urinary tract and are a common cause of chronic kidney disease (CKD). The aim of this study was to develop clinical predictive model of CKD in a cohort of patients with PUVs.
Methods: In this retrospective cohort study, 173 patients with PUVs were systematically followed up at a single tertiary unit.
Flies of the family Calliphoridae play a variety of ecological roles. They carry various pathogens and cause myiasis in humans and livestock, but they are useful to forensic entomology and in larval therapy. Mesembrinellidae flies, formerly classified in the family Calliphoridae, are good bioindicators of human interference in natural environments.

Study of cadaveric fauna in various environments is primary as source of information to support this science. This study collected information about the fauna of Calliphoridae associated to carcasses of Rattus rattus in the Tijuca National Park, RJ.

Ant-aphid interactions may affect host plants in several ways, however, most studies measure only the amount of fruit and seed produced, and do not test seed viability. Therefore, the aim of this study was to assess the effects of the presence of ant-aphid interactions upon host plant productivity and seed viability in two different contexts: isolated and within an arthropod community. For this purpose we tested the hypothesis that in both isolated and community contexts, the presence of an ant-aphid interaction will have a positive effect on fruit and seed production, seed biomass and rate of seed germination, and a negative effect on abnormal seedling rates, in comparison to plants without ants.
