A new conductive ink based on the addition of carbon black to a poly(vinyl alcohol) matrix is developed and investigated for electrochemical sensing and biosensing applications. The produced devices were characterized using morphological and electrochemical techniques and modified with Pd nanoparticles to enhance electrical conductivity and reaction kinetics. With the aid of chemometrics, the parameters for metal deposition were investigated and the sensor was applied to the determination of Parkinson's disease biomarkers, specifically epinephrine and α-synuclein.

Pattern recognition based myoelectric control has been widely explored in the field of prosthetics, but little work has extended to other patient groups. Individuals with neurological injuries such as spinal cord injury may also benefit from more intuitive control that may facilitate more interactive treatments or improved control of functional electrical stimulation (FES) systems or assistive technologies. This work presents a pilot study with 10 individuals with cervical spinal cord injury between A and C on the American Spinal Injury Association Impairment Scale.

Besides being an oxygen-enriched environment, it contains combustible materials and equipment with available ignition sources. Although fires in operating rooms are a relatively rare event, the consequences are potentially serious and mostly avoidable.
