Rationale And Objectives: Increased aortic or central arterial stiffness (CAS) is a major factor in cardiovascular morbidity and mortality in patients with vascular risk factors. Decreased glomerular filtration rate (GFR) and increased urinary albumin excretion (uALB) are associated with lethal and non-lethal cardiovas-cular events. Living donor kidney transplant is the best treatment for end-stage kidney disease, posing minimal perioperative morbimortality for the donor, although long-term consequences are subject of debate if donor acceptance widens. We present a retrospective observational study analyzing clinical, demographic, and analytical variables throughout the follow-up period of 60 kidney donors whose procedures were performed between 1985 and 2021 at our hospital. Donors were divided according to their previous high blood pressure status, analyzing kidney function and other clinical parameters throughout follow-up.

The Global Burden of Disease (GBD) study measures the health of populations worldwide and by country on an annual basis and aims at helping guide public policy on health issues. The GBD estimates for Spain in 2016 and recent trends in mortality and morbidity from 2006 to 2016 were recently published. According to these estimates, chronic kidney disease was the 8th cause of death in Spain in 2016.
