Genetic polymorphisms of inflammatory and bone metabolism related proteins in a population with dental implants of the Basque Country. A case-control study.

Background: Peri-implantitis (PI) is a frequent inflammatory disorder characterised by progressive loss of the supporting bone. Not all patients with recognised risk factors develop PI. The aim of this study is to evaluate the presence of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNP) of inflammatory and bone metabolism related proteins in a population treated with dental implants from the Basque Country (Spain).

Presence and implication of Candida spp. in patients with peri-implantitis enrolled in a supportive peri-implant therapy program of the Basque Country (Spain). A case-control study.

Introduction: The peri-implant sulcus is a good niche for infectious colonization such as Candida spp. In this study, the level of Candida spp. fungal colonization is analyzed in patients with peri-implantitis under supportive peri-implant therapy, as well as its correlation with the main clinicopathological data.

Orthokeratinized odontogenic cyst: a report of three clinical cases.

The orthokeratinized odontogenic cyst (OOC) is a rare developmental odontogenic cyst that has been considered as a variant of the keratocystic odontogenic tumour (KCOT) until Wright (1981) defined it as a different entity. Surgery is the usual treatment, and recurrence or association with Gorlin-Goltz syndrome has rarely been described. In this report, we presented three cases of this pathology, and we review the principal clinical, histological, radiological, and therapeutic aspects.

Salivary cortisol determination in patients from the Basque Country with recurrent aphthous stomatitis. A pilot study.

Objectives: Stress and anxiety are controversial factors involved in the complex pathogenesis of Recurrent Aphthous Stomatitis (RAS). The determination of salivary cortisol is a useful, simple and safe test to detect states of high stress or anxiety. The aim of this study is to check for changes in salivary cortisol levels in patients with RAS during periods of active disease.

Salivary levels of Tumour Necrosis Factor-alpha in patients with recurrent aphthous stomatitis.

Objectives: Recurrent aphthous stomatitis (RAS) is a common pathology of the oral mucosa with a complex and multifactorial etiology. Tumour Necrosis Factor-alpha (TNFα) is a cytokine with an important but not well-known role in the development of new lesions in RAS patients. Modifications of salivary levels of TNFα in RAS patients during the active periods of the disease have been measured in this work.

Primary oral squamous cell carcinoma arising around dental osseointegrated implants mimicking peri-implantitis.

Prosthodontic rehabilitation using dental implants has become a common practice in dentistry at the present time. The number of complications related to dental osseointegrated implants has increased according to the generalization of its use along the last decade. Among the most common of these complications are chronic inflammatory conditions affecting both hard and soft tissues around dental implants.
