Celiac disease (CD) is a chronic gastrointestinal disorder that is most frequently found in Western countries, and the only treatment available today is a lifelong gluten-free diet (GFD). The main aim of the present study is to compare the self-care practices and body mass index (BMI) of adolescents with CD and without CD in different dimensions (physical, psychological, social, and management). The non-probabilistic sample included 236 participants (118 with CD) aged between 12 and 16 years old, who were part of the project "Role of the family in the perception of youth self-care".

Introduction: Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic, inflammatory skin condition significantly affecting quality of life. A small randomised trial showed an approximately one-third lower incidence of AD in goat milk formula-fed compared with cow milk formula-fed infants. However, due to limited statistical power, AD incidence difference was not found to be significant.

In order to develop and support recommendations, an analysis of the available evidence on the impact of food advertising on the health of children and adolescents has been carried out.
Methods: Literature review of systematic reviews and meta-analyses published up to January 2022 for the term "food advertising" that analyzed the impact of food advertising on weight, body mass index (BMI), adiposity, dietary intake, behavior toward the advertised product, its purchase or consumption in children and adolescents.
Introduction: There are various scales designed to determine the risk of malnutrition at hospital admission in children. However, most of these instruments are developed and published in English. Their cross-cultural adaptation and validation being mandatory in order to be used in our country.

Methods: Two independent researchers performed a systematic review of indexed studies in PubMed, Embase, CINAHL, Cochrane and Scopus. We included data from randomized controlled trials measuring the effects of kangaroo care compared to standard incubator care on physiological stress outcomes, defined as oxygen saturation, body temperature, heart rate and respiratory rate.
Background: The desire to understand and the growing interest in research on the effects of kangaroo mother care in preterm infants in the neonatal intensive care unit have led to a significant increase in the number of manuscripts published in this field over the past decade. It is therefore necessary to regularly review the state of knowledge on this phenomenon in order to identify progress and constraints, to stimulate reflection, and to encourage progress in future research.
Purpose: The aim of this study was to determine the current state of scientific production in relation to kangaroo mother care in preterm infants in the neonatal intensive care unit through bibliometric analysis.
Objective: The main aim of this study was to describe and conduct a bibliometric analysis of the state of research on stress, anxiety, and postpartum depression in mothers of preterm infants in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit.
Background: Women affected by premature births are particularly exposed to mental health difficulties in the postpartum period. The desire to comprehend and the growing interest in research on stress, anxiety, and postpartum depression in mothers of preterm infants in neonatal intensive care have led to a substantial rise in the number of documents in this field over the last years.
Background: Current research suggests a need to implement environmental, behavioral, and even nutritional interventions, with the objective of improving the comfort and stability of preterm newborn infants, as well as reducing their stress and pain levels. Several studies have used the salivary reactivity of cortisol to assess stress or pain in preterm infants. The aim of this study was to analyze the results of published randomized controlled trials that tested the effects of nonpharmacological interventions on cortisol as a treatment for heel lance pain/stress in preterm infants.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFIron deficiency (ID) is the most common nutritional deficiency affecting children worldwide. Most traditional laboratory parameters to assess ID can be altered by infections or other inflammatory states, including obesity. The aims of this study were to determine the prevalence of ID in healthy children and to analyse associated factors, avoiding potential confounding factors through the use of serum transferrin receptor (sTfR), reticulocyte haemoglobin content and sTfR/log ferritin index.

To analyze the relationship between EW and ID in healthy adolescents, assessing the contribution of new diagnostic measures of iron status and erythropoietic activity. A cross-sectional study was made of 405 healthy adolescents, 12-16 years of age.

Analysis of the reticulocyte hemoglobin content (CHr) to screen for iron deficiency may increase the accuracy of diagnosis, but, to date, reference values in healthy adolescents have not been adequately determined. A cross-sectional study was conducted on a population-based representative sample in the city of Almería (Spain), with 253 healthy non-iron-deficient (ID) subjects, aged 12 to 16 years.

Introduction:Parenteral nutrition (PN) in childhood is a treatment whose characteristics are highly variable depending on the age and pathology of the patient. Material and methods: The Standardization and Protocols Group of the Spanish Society for Parenteral and Enteral Nutrition (SENPE) is an interdisciplinary group formed by members of the SENPE, the Spanish Society of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Pediatric Nutrition (SEGHNP) and the Spanish Society of Hospital Pharmacy (SEFH) that intends to update this issue. For this, a detailed review of the literature has been carried out, looking for the evidences that allow us to elaborate a Clinical Practice Guide following the criteria of the Oxford Center for Evidence-Based Medicine.

Materials And Methods: Population-based study conducted on a randomly selected sample of prepubescent Caucasian subjects aged 2.00 to 9.
Reticulocyte hemoglobin content (CHr) is considered an indicator of functional iron deficiency, but is understudied in children. The goals of this study are to determine the reference intervals for CHr in healthy children, and their relation with iron parameters, erythropoiesis, and individual conditions. A total of 902 children without iron deficiency, aged 1 to 11 years were analyzed in a cross-sectional study.

Objective: In obese subjects, slight increases have been observed in thyrotropin [thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH)] levels, but data in children are scarce. The aim of this study was to evaluate whether thyroid function and autoimmunity vary with weight status in a healthy population of children and adolescents and to determine whether hyperthyrotropinemia is associated with any cardiovascular risk factor.
Methods: This cross-sectional epidemiological study was conducted in Almería (Spain) on a representative sample of 1317 healthy subjects aged 2-16 years.
Background And Objective: there are few studies on the prevalence of metabolic syndrome (MetS) in European adolescent populations, and some have reported a higher prevalence in the Mediterranean basin area. Our objective was to examine the prevalence of MetS in adolescents in a Mediterranean city of Spain, comparing two different definitions of MetS and the associated risk factors.
Methods And Results: a cross-sectional population-based study was conducted among 379 adolescents aged 12-16.
Adolescence is a period of increased iron requirements, which impact on iron status. The purpose of this research is to determine the reference intervals for serum transferrin receptor (sTfR) and sTfR/log ferritin index (sTfR-F index) in healthy adolescents, and their relation with iron parameters and erythropoiesis. A total of 253 healthy adolescents without overweight, aged 12 to 16 years, were selected in a cross-sectional study.

Deficiency in the interleukin12/INFgamma pathway is a genetic condition that predisposes to some infections, including nontuberculous mycobacteria infection and extraintestinal salmonellosis. We report 2 cases in sisters who were diagnosed with a genetic defect caused by a new mutation in Interleukin-12 receptor β1 chain (IL12Rβ1) leading to different clinical presentations and responses to therapy.
