A Retrospective Study of the Prognostic Patterns in Colorectal Cancer Patients.

Introduction  Colorectal cancer (CRC) management has advanced globally, leading to a steady decline in mortality rates. However, recent studies have shown that the prognosis of CRC varies based on the anatomical site of the primary tumor, histopathological grading, and type of mutation. With an increase in the incidence of CRC globally and in Bahrain, there is a need for a recent descriptive study to improve overall management.

A Rare Metastatic Site of Invasive Lobular Breast Carcinoma: A Case Report.

Here, we report a case of a 42-year-old female patient with left lobular breast cancer-gastric metastasis (initially misdiagnosed five years ago as an invasive ductal carcinoma) presenting with dyspepsia, weight loss, and persistent vomiting lasting for four weeks. Upper GI endoscopy revealed evidence of linitis plastica, and histological and immunocytochemical analyses of the biopsy confirmed gastric metastasis secondary to invasive lobular breast carcinoma.

Incidence of anal fistula after pyogenic perianal abscess drainage in Kingdom of Bahrain.

Purpose: Perianal fistula is one of the most common anorectal diseases in adult patients, especially men. A relationship between pyogenic perianal abscess and fistula formation is established in multiple domains. This is the first exploration of such association among patients in the country as no related study has been published in Bahrain.

SARS-CoV-2 in peritoneal swabs from asymptomatic patients undergoing emergency abdominal surgery.

This is a case series of five patients with acute abdomen requiring surgery who tested positive for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) and were asymptomatic, with the purpose of detection of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) in peritoneal fluid. Nasopharyngeal swab was done as a prerequisite for admission or prior to admission as part of random testing. Two methods of viral testing were employed: Xpert® Xpress SARS-CoV-2 (rapid test) and real-time reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR).

Synchronous breast and colon cancer: the importance of multidisciplinary team cancer meetings.

A 58-year-old female patient presented with left breast lump. Mammography and ultrasonography were performed, which reported lesions suspicious of malignancy in the left breast and axilla. Core biopsy of the lesions revealed invasive ductal carcinoma with axillary lymph node metastasis.

Case Report on a Rare Intraoperative Finding of Ectopic Liver Tissue Attached to Gallbladder Wall during Laparoscopic Cholecystectomy.

Introduction: Ectopic liver is a rare finding (Corsy, 1922; Kubota et al., 2007) that is usually discovered intraoperatively or during an autopsy (Bassis and Izenstark, 1956). Preoperative diagnosis of ectopic liver is also uncommon.

Surgical treatment of granulomatous mastitis: Our experience in Bahrain.

Granulomatous mastitis (GM) is a rare, benign inflammatory disease of the breast with unknown etiology. There is no universally accepted treatment for GM. The aim of this study was to show our experience with surgical treatment of GM.

Accuracy of intraoperative frozen section evaluation of sentinel lymph node biopsy in breast cancer: Our experience in Bahrain.

Introduction: Intraoperative frozen section of sentinel lymph nodes (SLN) in clinically node-negative breast cancer patients is performed to stage the axilla and allows axillary lymph node dissection (ALND) to be avoided in the same operative setting. The aim of this study was to evaluate our institutional experience on the accuracy of intraoperative frozen section of sentinel lymph node biopsy (SLNB) in breast cancer patients.

Methods: Clinicopathological data from patients who underwent surgery for breast cancer with SLNB from January 2013 to May 2017 at Salmaniya Medical Complex (SMC) in Bahrain were collected retrospectively.
