The receptor for advanced glycation end-products (RAGE), a member of the immunoglobulin superfamily, is expressed in various cell types and mediates cellular responses to a wide range of ligands. The activation of RAGE triggers complex signaling pathways that drive inflammatory, oxidative, and proliferative responses, which are increasingly implicated in the pathogenesis of skin diseases. Despite its well-established roles in conditions such as diabetes, cancer, and chronic inflammation, the contribution of RAGE to skin pathologies remains underexplored.

Background: A femoral neck fracture leads to serious health-related, social and economic consequences and, according to the con-temporary doctrine of medical management, should be treated surgically. Data provided by the Agency for Health Technology Assessment and Tariff System indicate that there were 1534 patients with femoral neck fractures treated by arthroplasty with a Moore's endoprosthesis and 4744 with a bipolar endoprosthesis in Poland in 2014. Since the risk of femoral neck fracture increases exponentially with the patient's age, and population aging is undoubtedly a real demographic trend, we believe that there is a need to develop criteria for taking treatment decisions to ensure the best possible outcomes.

19-year-old hirsute woman with obesity, skin lesions with features of acanthosis nigricans around neck, armpits, thoracic cage and wrists escalating for couple of months, elevated testosterone and insulin plasma levels was admitted to hospital to perform diagnostic approach. The final diagnosis was hyperandrogenism-insulin resistance-acanthosis nigricans syndrome (HAIR-AN syndrome), considered as a subtype of policystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) and impaired glucose tolerance. HAIR-AN is characterized by coexistence of: hyperandrogenism (HA), insulin resistance (IR) and acanthosis nigricans (AN).
