The present work studied the effect of temperature on the corrosion behavior of API X120 steel in a saline solution saturated with CO in absence and presence of polyethyleneimine (PEI) as an environmentally safe green inhibitor. The effect of PEI on the corrosion behavior of API X120 steel was investigated using destructive and non-destructive electrochemical techniques. The overall results revealed that PEI significantly decreases the corrosion rate of API X120 steel with inhibition efficiency of 94% at a concentration of 100 μmol L.

Purpose: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a common liver malignancy, which has a low survival rate of all cancers. 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) is clinically recognized to treat HCC. However, the success of this therapy is highly limited due to rapid clearance and non- selective distribution.

Since we have started colonic replacement of the esophagus in children, several successive modifications have led to evolution of the surgical technique aiming to decrease complications and achieve the best functional outcome. Currently, our surgical group has reached a single standardized technique that has been applied to all cases included in this report. A colonic flap (including the transverse colon) is prepared based on the left colic vessels.

The internal medicine In-Training Exam (ITE) is administered at residency training programs to assess medical knowledge. Our internal medicine residency program witnessed a performance decline on the ITE between 2011 and 2014. The goal of this quality improvement project was to improve medical knowledge among residents as measured by an improvement in performance on the ITE, through the design and implementation of an Academic Enrichment Program (AEP).

Fabry-Perot interferometric (FPI) sensors are an accurate and well-established sensing technology that are used to monitor a wide range of parameters such as strain, temperature, and refractive index, among many others. Nevertheless, due to the limited number and high cost of existing interrogation techniques for FPIs, its use is often restricted to discrete measurements, not being so explored for dynamic applications. The development of an alternative interrogation technique for a high rate of acquisition may propel this type of sensor into less explored fields such as dynamic biomedical applications.

The development of new therapeutic options against () infection is a critical public health concern, as the causative bacterium is highly resistant to multiple classes of antibiotics. Antimicrobial host-defense peptides (HDPs) are highly effective at simultaneously modulating the immune system function and directly killing bacteria through membrane disruption and oxidative damage. The copper-binding HDPs piscidin 1 and piscidin 3 have previously shown potent antimicrobial activity against a number of Gram-negative and Gram-positive bacterial species but have never been investigated in an anaerobic environment.

Aim: This study aimed to determine the prevalence rates of infection in camel sera collected before slaughter and gross lesion tissue collected postmortem (PM) using enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA), bacteriological culture, and polymerase chain reaction (PCR). In addition, serum samples from humans who had occupational contact with camels were tested by ELISA and sputum sample by culture.

Materials And Methods: ELISA was performed on serum samples antemortem.

Biomimicry strategies, inspired from natural organization of living organisms, are being widely used in the design of nanobiomaterials. Particularly, nonlithographic techniques have shown immense potential in the facile fabrication of nanostructured surfaces at large-scale production. Orthopedic biomaterials or coatings possessing extracellular matrix-like nanoscale features induce desirable interactions between the bone tissue and implant surface, also known as osseointegration.

Introduction: One-third of non-pregnant women worldwide are anemic. Anemia is a known independent risk factor for postoperative morbidity. Given that the vast majority of hysterectomies are not performed in the emergency setting, we designed this study to evaluate the effect of preoperative anemia on postoperative morbidity following laparoscopic hysterectomy performed for benign indications.

This study investigated volumetric brain changes and cognitive performance in premenopausal and postmenopausal patients treated for early-stage breast cancer. Participants underwent elaborate neurocognitive assessments (neuropsychological testing, cognitive failure questionnaire, and high-resolution T1-weighted structural MRI) before and after chemotherapy. Volumetric brain changes were estimated, using longitudinal deformation-based morphometry, and correlated with cognitive changes.

Just recently, the "horizontal natural product transfer" was unveiled: alkaloids, which have been leached out from decomposing alkaloidal donor plants, are taken up by the roots of acceptor plants. In the same manner, many other natural products, such as coumarins or stilbenes, are also taken up from the soil. Recent research outlined that alkaloids are transferred also from a living donor plant to plants growing in their vicinity.

Background: This study aimed to evaluate the relationship of serum vitronectin and integrin alpha V beta 3 (αvβ3) levels with various clinicopathological parameters of breast cancer and to assess the diagnostic value of these markers alone or in combination with the conventional breast cancer biomarker CA15.3.

Methods: This study included 50 early diagnosed stage I - II primary breast cancer patients, 20 patients with fibroadenoma benign lesions, and 20 apparently normal healthy controls.

Purpose: Knowledge is limited regarding the prevalence and persistence of chemotherapy-induced leukoencephalopathy in childhood sarcoma patients. This study explored the presence, clinical relevance, and potential risk factors of leukoencephalopathy in childhood bone and soft tissue sarcoma survivors, treated with intravenous chemotherapy.

Methods: We acquired cross-sectional neurocognitive data in adult survivors (n = 34) (median age at diagnosis [AaD] = 13.

Background: Schistosomiasis is responsible for a considerable global disease burden. This work aimed to improve the therapeutic outcome of the only available antischistosomal drug worldwide, praziquantel (PZQ), by incorporating it into a novel carrier, "solid lipid nanoparticles (SLNs)", to enhance its solubility, bioavailability and efficacy. A simple, cost-effective method was used to prepare SLN-PZQ.

Following fertilization, totipotent cells undergo asymmetric cell divisions, resulting in three distinct cell types in the late pre-implantation blastocyst: epiblast (Epi), primitive endoderm (PrE), and trophectoderm (TE). Here, we aim to understand whether these three cell types can be induced from fibroblasts by one combination of transcription factors. By utilizing a sophisticated fluorescent knockin reporter system, we identified a combination of five transcription factors, Gata3, Eomes, Tfap2c, Myc, and Esrrb, that can reprogram fibroblasts into induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs), induced trophoblast stem cells (iTSCs), and induced extraembryonic endoderm stem cells (iXENs), concomitantly.

Background: Implant based reconstruction is one of the well-established methods to restore shape and volume after total mastectomy. Exposure of an implant is a serious complication that could lead to failure of the whole process of breast reconstruction. There are no uniform guidelines on the management of such complication.

In this paper, a new realization of the fractional capacitor (FC) using passive symmetric networks is proposed. A general analysis of the symmetric network that is independent of the internal impedance composition is introduced. Three different internal impedances are utilized in the network to realize the required response of the FC.
