Background: Social determinants of health (SDoH), including access to care, economic stability, neighborhood factors, and social context, strongly influence pediatric asthma outcomes. School-supervised asthma therapy (SST) is an evidence-based strategy that improves asthma outcomes, particularly for historically marginalized children, by providing support for daily medication adherence in school. However, little is known about the relationship between these programs and the adverse SDoH commonly affecting underrepresented minority and marginalized children with asthma.

Participant Perspectives on the Implementation of a School-Linked Text-Message Intervention to Improve Pediatric Asthma Medication Adherence.

Poor adherence to inhaled corticosteroids (ICS) is a significant challenge in pediatric asthma, contributing to health inequities. Text-message reminders for ICS therapy are an evidence-based approach that improves pediatric asthma medication adherence, yet has not been widely adopted into practice, partly due to lack of (1) participant input on design and implementation and (2) use of sustainable community linkages. Remote Asthma Link™ (RAL) seeks to fill this gap as a school-linked text-message intervention wherein parents of children with poorly controlled asthma received daily, 2-way text-message reminders for preventive inhaler use.

Lymphedema is a debilitating disease characterized by abnormal lymphatic drainage, either due to primary maldevelopment of the lymphatic system or to secondary injury. The clinical features of primary and secondary lymphedema differ, with primary lymphedema more often involving progressive bilateral lower extremity disease as compared to secondary lymphedema characteristically having more localized symptoms related to the origin of injury. This case presentation describes a patient who presented with bilateral lower extremity swelling, left greater than the right, with imaging results to support the diagnosis of lymphedema.

In this study, the fatigue usage factors for Findley and Matake stress-based criteria were determined in the case of an MK5×2 mine hoist drum brake system subjected to cyclic maneuver braking. The study was conducted for this type of brake system, because the majority of mine hoists in Romanian mines are equipped with this brake type, being in operation for several decades. A geometric model of the brake was built using SolidWorks and imported in COMSOL Multiphysics to perform thermo-mechanical simulations.

This paper studies both the thermal and mechanical behavior of brake system models in the case of the emergency braking of a mine hoist model. Using a step-by-step approach inspired by studies conducted on small brake systems with high rotation speeds specific to road and rail vehicles, a comparative analysis using a computer simulation was performed for the two types of brakes of a mine hoist system. A Solidworks model was built for two configurations: the drum-and-shoe and the disc-and-pads, and it was imported to COMSOL Multiphysics, where the material properties and simulation parameters were defined.

Background: There is growing evidence supporting the need for a short time delay before starting radiotherapy (RT) treatment postsurgery for most optimal responses. The timing of RT initiation and effects on outcomes have been evaluated in a variety of malignancies, but the relationship remains to be well established for brain metastasis.

Methods: Retrospective study of 176 patients (aged 18-89 years) with brain metastases at a single institution (March 2009 to August 2018) who received RT following surgical resection.
