Autistic spectrum disease (ASD) is an increasingly common diagnosis nowadays with a prevalence of 1-2% in most countries. Its complex causality-a combination of genetic, immune, metabolic, and environmental factors-is translated into pleiomorphic developmental disorders of various severity, which have two main aspects in common: repetitive, restrictive behaviors and difficulties in social interaction varying from awkward habits and verbalization to a complete lack of interest for the outside world. The wide variety of ASD causes also makes it very difficult to find a common denominator-a disease biomarker and medication-and currently, there is no commonly used diagnostic and therapeutic strategy besides clinical evaluation and psychotherapy.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFUmbilical cord blood (UCB) is proving to be a valuable resource of stem cells and is currently being used for a variety of oncological and hematological pathologies and metabolic disorders; in addition, new clinical trials are showing promising results in certain neurological, autoimmune and developmental disorders. More recently, the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has granted approval for the clinical use of cellular therapies with UCB-based products and new therapeutic utilizations are being studied for regenerative medicine; all these developments will increase the utilization of "off-the-shelf" UCB units. As a drawback, contamination of UCB grafts is a significant occurrence (upwards of 5% in most analysis) and, even though it consists mainly of non-pathogenic bacteria, it can raise serious questions regarding intravenous UCB administration, especially in patients who are not receiving coincidental antibiotic coverage.

Counteracting these modifications requires treatment with pleiotropic molecules and/or combination of molecules and opens the possibility of future treatments with arrays of siRNAs and/or specific panels of small molecules tailored for each patient subpopulation.

Concerns about the possible side effects or toxic effects of peroxide-based whitening gels leads to the identification of alternative whitening methods, based on natural compounds with mild action on tooth enamel and remineralizing effect. In this context, this study describes the preparation and in vitro analysis of whitening gels based on natural active agents-bromelain, quince and whey-using organic (polyacrylate, polyethylene glycol) and/or inorganic (silicate) excipients.

We performed a prospective randomized clinical trial in which both methods were compared in patients after acromioplasty.
