Mucinous Adenocarcinoma and Carcinoid Tumor Arising Within an Ovarian Mature Cystic Teratoma: A Case Report.

The coexistence of both mucinous adenocarcinoma and carcinoid tumor within an ovarian mature cystic teratoma is extremely rare. We report a case of an 18-year-old Omani woman with a left ovarian cyst. After laparotomy with left salpingo-oophorectomy, omentectomy, and peritoneal washings, the excised cyst had the typical morphology of mature cystic teratoma with grade I mucinous adenocarcinoma and a focus of carcinoid tumor.

Bronchial Leiomyoma: Importance of Preoperative Biopsy for Lung Preserving Surgery.

Tracheobronchial leiomyoma is a rare tumor of the airway. They arise from the lower respiratory tract tissue of the bronchi, trachea, and lung. Symptomatology is based on the degree of endoluminal bronchial obstruction, and surgical resection is generally the mainstay of treatment.

Connections between prolactin and ovarian cancer.

Ovarian cancer (OC) is characterized by a high morbidity and mortality, highlighting a great need for a better understanding of biological mechanisms that affect OC progression and improving its early detection methods. This study investigates effects of prolactin (PRL) on ovarian cancer cells, analyzes PRL receptors (PRLR) in tissue micro arrays and relates PRLR expression to survival of ovarian cancer. A database, composed of transcript profiles from OC, was searched for PRLR expression and results were put in relation to survival.

Correlation of Intraoperative Frozen Section Report and Histopathological Diagnosis of Central Nervous System Tumors - A Six-Year Retrospective Study.

Objectives: To evaluate the degree of agreement between the intraoperative frozen section (FS) reporting of central nervous system (CNS) tumors and final histopathological diagnosis based on permanent paraffin section.

Methods: All CNS tumor cases with a diagnosis at FS and subsequent permanent section (n = 261) taken from 2007 to 2012 were retrospectively reviewed. Twenty percent of FS were double-checked by a senior pathologist as part of the study and the intraobserver agreement between the pathologist and the agreement between final report, and initial FS report was estimated by the intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC).
