This case report discusses a 12-year-old West Highland White Terrier presented to the veterinary clinic with reverse sneezing and oral dysphagia. The endoscopic examination of the upper respiratory tract revealed a mass in the area of the right tonsil. Histologic examination confirmed the diagnosis of a malignant pilomatrixoma.

Of the four unique isoforms of pyruvate kinase, R (PKR) is expressed exclusively in red blood cells and is a tetrameric enzyme that depends on fructose-1,6-bisphosphate (FBP) for activation. PKR deficiency leads to hemolysis of red blood cells resulting in anemia.

Pharmacological increase in the concentration of oxygenated HbS in RBCs has been shown to be a novel approach to inhibit HbS polymerization and reduce RBC sickling and haemolysis. We report that GBT021601, a small molecule that increases HbS-oxygen affinity, inhibits HbS polymerization and prevents RBC sickling in blood from patients with SCD.

The high abundance of serum proteins, including bovine cell derived exosomes, is also a potential source of contaminants, which may result in appreciable yields of impure exosomes, thereby leading to artifacts. Isolation and characterization of exosomes from cells maintained under serum‑free conditions should therefore ensure the high quality necessary for medical applications.

It is presumed that there is a correlation between a temporary increase in eye pressure and the presence of histologically confirmed prostate cancer. This is supported by the normalization of the eye pressure following successful radical prostatectomy. The electronic structures of 4-substituted 2-allyl anisoles (1-9) have been investigated by ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy and quantum chemical methods. The ionisation potentials corresponding to the pi MOs pi(2) and pi(3) of the phenyl ring, and the n(O) orbital of the methoxy group as well as the allylic pi(C=C) orbital could be determined and assigned for 1-9. Linear regression analyses of the IPs related to these orbitals with different substituent constants indicated that Hammett sigma(p) values performed satisfactorily to fair for pi(2), pi(3) and n(O) but poor for allylic pi(C=C).
