g-CN Modified with Metal Sulfides for Visible-Light-Driven Photocatalytic Degradation of Organic Pollutants.

Graphitic carbon nitride (g-CN) proved to be a promising semiconductor for the photocatalytic degradation of various organic pollutants. However, its efficacy is limited by a fast electron hole recombination, a restricted quantity of active sites, and a modest absorption in the visible range. To overcome these limitations, g-CN-BiS and g-CN-ZnS composites were effectively produced utilizing a starch-assisted technique.

Non-Canonical C Homoterpene Biosynthesis Widespread in Actinobacteria.

A novel biosynthetic pathway towards the rare and underexplored non-canonical family of homoterpenes was discovered in actinobacteria through targeted genome mining and enzymatic in vitro reconstitution. The pathway comprises initial methylation-induced double bond isomerization of farnesyl diphosphate (FPP) to (2E,7E)-6-methyl-farnesyl diphosphate, catalyzed by a novel family of methyltransferases with unique dual function. The resulting linear C double bond isomer of FPP constitutes the specific substrate for a distinct family of type I terpene cyclases, catalyzing diverse cyclization reactions.

Home-based high tone therapy may alleviate chemotherapy-induced neuropathic symptoms in patients with colorectal cancer: A randomized double-blind placebo-controlled pilot evaluation.

Background: Most oncologic patients receiving chemotherapy suffer from neuropathy, which not only severely affects quality of life but also may lead to chemotherapy dose reductions or even discontinuation of cancer therapy. Still, it is difficult to sufficiently control these symptoms with the currently available pharmacological treatments. High tone therapy was reported to be an effective option for neuropathies due to different etiologies.

Use of intraoperative haemoadsorption in patients undergoing heart transplantation: a proof-of-concept randomized trial.

Aims: The aim of this trial was to compare the clinical effects of intraoperative haemoadsorption versus standard care in patients undergoing orthotopic heart transplantation (OHT).

Methods And Results: In a randomized, controlled trial, OHT recipients were randomized to receive intraoperative haemoadsorption or standard care. Outcomes were vasoactive-inotropic score (VIS), frequency of vasoplegic syndrome (VS) in the first 24 h; post-operative change in procalcitonin (PCT) and C-reactive protein (CRP) levels; intraoperative change in mycophenolic acid (MPA) concentration; frequency of post-operative organ dysfunction, major complications, adverse immunological events and length of in-hospital stay and 1-year survival.

Extracorporeal photopheresis in the treatment of cardiac allograft rejection: A single-centre experience.

Despite novel immunosuppressive (IS) protocols, adverse effects of IS drugs continue to have notable negative impact on patient and cardiac allograft survival after heart transplantation (HTx). Therefore, IS regimens with less toxic side effects are sorely needed. We aimed to evaluate the efficacy of extracorporeal photopheresis (ECP) in combination with tacrolimus-based maintenance IS therapy in the treatment of allograft rejection in adult HTx recipients.

Biosignal processing methods to explore the effects of side-dominance on patterns of bi- and unilateral standing stability in healthy young adults.

We examined the effects of side-dominance on the laterality of standing stability using ground reaction force, motion capture (), and data in healthy young adults. We recruited participants with strong right ( = 15) and left ( = 9) hand and leg dominance (side-dominance). They stood on one or two legs on a pair of synchronized force platforms for 50 s with 60 s rest between three randomized stance trials.

[Effective integration of hospice palliative care into national oncology and general practice].

Introduction: Hospice movement began in Hungary in 1991, today home care and impatient care is accessable na-tionwide. However, despite the growing number of patients receving palliative care, according to the survey of the Hungarian Hospice Palliative Association, the average time they have spent receiving home hospice care was only 26,7 days in 2020, when the ideal would be 8,5 months. It has been proven by studies, that involving hospice -palli-ative care early on in the treatment of oncology patients has benefits for both the quality of life and treatment and cost-effectiveness.

Case report: Urgent surgical management of pediatric clear cell sarcoma of the kidney with atrial obstruction.

Clear cell sarcoma of the kidney (CCSK) is an uncommon renal neoplasm of childhood. Progression of intracaval or cavoatrial thrombosis is extremely rare and mostly asymptomatic, treated with neoadjuvant therapy followed by surgery. Development of a detailed canine gait analysis method for evaluating harnesses: A pilot study.

Dog harnesses are becoming more popular, with their large variety stemming from the idea that different dogs and scenarios require different types of harnesses. While their benefits over collars are self-explanatory, there is a lack of research on their effect on gait, and even the existing studies examine only a limited set of parameters. Acute heart transplantation from mechanical circulatory support in a human immunodeficiency virus-positive patient with fulminant myocarditis.

Since the establishment of highly active antiretroviral therapy, survival rates have improved among patients with human immunodeficiency virus infection giving them the possibility to become transplant candidates. Recent publications revealed that human immunodeficiency virus-positive heart transplant recipients' survival is similar to non-infected patients. We present the case of a 40-year-old human immunodeficiency virus infected patient, who was hospitalized due to severely decreased left ventricular function with a possible aetiology of acute myocarditis, that has later been confirmed by histological investigation of myocardial biopsy.

Right ventricular mechanical pattern in patients undergoing mitral valve surgery: a predictor of post-operative dysfunction?

Aims: The PREPARE-MVR study (PRediction of Early PostoperAtive Right vEntricular failure in Mitral Valve Replacement/Repair patients) sought to investigate the alterations of right ventricular (RV) contraction pattern in patients undergoing mitral valve replacement/repair (MVR) and to explore the associations between pre-operative RV mechanics and early post-operative RV dysfunction (RVD).

Methods And Results: We prospectively enrolled 42 patients (63 ± 11 years, 69% men) undergoing open-heart MVR. Transthoracic three-dimensional (3D) echocardiography was performed pre-operatively, at intensive care unit discharge, and 6 months after surgery.

Methods: In our current work we tried to separate membrane-initiated estrogen receptor signaling from the overall estrogenic effect in MCF-7 breast carcinoma cells. Impact of intraoperative cytokine adsorption on outcome of patients undergoing orthotopic heart transplantation-an observational study.

Aim: The aim of this study was to assess the influence of intraoperative cytokine adsorption on the perioperative vasoplegia, inflammatory response and outcome during orthotopic heart transplantation (OHT).

Methods: Eighty-four OHT patients were separated into the cytokine adsorption (CA)-treated group or controls. Vasopressor demand, inflammatory response described by procalcitonin and C-reactive protein, and postoperative outcome were assessed performing propensity score matching.

Dominance of free wall radial motion in global right ventricular function of heart transplant recipients.

Assessment of right ventricular (RV) function using conventional echocardiography might be inadequate as the radial motion of the RV free wall is often neglected. Our aim was to quantify the longitudinal and the radial components of RV function using three-dimensional (3D) echocardiography in heart transplant (HTX) recipients. Fifty-one HTX patients in stable cardiovascular condition without history of relevant rejection episode or chronic allograft vasculopathy and 30 healthy volunteers were enrolled.

Limitations of high throughput methods for miRNA expression profiles in non-functioning pituitary adenomas.

Microarray, RT-qPCR based arrays and next-generation-sequencing (NGS) are available high-throughput methods for miRNA profiling (miRNome). Analytical and biological performance of these methods were tested in identification of biologically relevant miRNAs in non-functioning pituitary adenomas (NFPA). miRNome of 4 normal pituitary (NP) and 8 NFPA samples was determined by these platforms and expression of 21 individual miRNAs was measured on 30 (20 NFPA and 10 NP) independent samples.
