[Immune thrombocytopenia in people under the age of twenty : a ten-year experience of a pediatric hematology and oncology department in Casablanca].

We conducted a retrospective study of 83 cases of immune thrombocytopenia (IT) in patients under 20 years of age. The aim was to provide an overview of IT in our young patients. The median age was 10 years, with a predominance of females (71 %).

Electrocoagulation Therapy for Urethral Condyloma Acuminata in a Male Patient: Case Report.

Condyloma acuminata (CA) is a common manifestation of human papillomavirus (HPV) infection affecting the urogenital tract. While external genital lesions are frequently encountered, urethral involvement presents a therapeutic challenge due to the risk of recurrence and long-term complications such as urethral stricture. We present a case of urethral condyloma acuminata in a 43-year-old male patient who demonstrated favorable progression following electrocoagulation therapy.

UV/Visible Diffusion-Ordered Spectroscopy: A Simultaneous Probe of Molecular Size and Electronic Absorption.

Based on concepts from nuclear magnetic resonance, we have developed UV/vis diffusion-ordered spectroscopy, which simultaneously probes the size and electronic absorption spectrum of molecules and particles. We use simple flow technology to create a step-function concentration profile inside an optical sample cell, and by measuring the time-dependent absorption spectrum in an initially solvent-filled part of the sample volume, we obtain the diffusion coefficients and UV/vis spectra of the species present in the sample solution. From these data, we construct a two-dimensional spectrum with absorption wavelength on one axis and diffusion coefficient (or equivalently, size) on the other, in which the UV/vis spectrum of a mixture with different molecular sizes is separated into the spectra of the different species, sorted by size.

Bone marrow aplasia is a rare and serious hematologic disorder. Although benign, it is a hematologic disorder whose prognosis can be poor and whose spontaneous development can be fatal. Treatment is long, difficult and costly.

The impact of economic crisis, COVID-19, and the Beirut Blast on colorectal cancer patients in Lebanon: A trend to operate more late-stage complex cases.

Background: The convergence of the economic crisis, COVID-19 pandemic, and Beirut Blast has precipitated unprecedented challenges for the healthcare system in Lebanon, particularly for cancer patients. Amidst these crises, our study evaluates its contribution to a concerning trend of operating on more late-stage and complex colorectal cancer (CRC) cases.

Methods: We included 155 patients operated for CRC between 2017 and 2023.

Introduction: Cancers of unknown primary origin (CUP) pose a significant clinical challenge, representing a small percentage (1 to 5 %) of overall cancer cases. The patient is a 31-year-old male who has been diagnosed with poorly differentiated infiltrating squamous cell carcinoma, which has been classified as CUP. The exceptional perineal presentation and diagnostic process serve as a reminder of the diverse nature of CUPs and the crucial role played by advanced imaging methods and a multidisciplinary approach.

Ischemic penile necrosis following embolization of the prostate for benign prostatic hyperplasia: A case report.

Prostatic artery embolization (PAE) provides a minimally invasive approach for treating benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) by occluding prostatic arteries to decrease prostate volume. While offering benefits, PAE can lead to severe complications, such as ischemic necrosis of the penis, due to unintended embolization of penile arteries. This is highlighted by the case of a 62-year-old man who, after PAE, suffered from glans necrosis accompanied by intense perineal pain and acute urinary retention.

The pathophysiology of post-traumatic brain injury (TBI) behavioral and cognitive changes is not fully understood, especially in its mild presentation. We designed a weight drop TBI model in mice to investigate the role of neuroinflammation in behavioral and cognitive sequelae following mild TBI. C57BL/6 mice displayed depressive-like behavior at 72 h after mild TBI compared with controls, as indicated by a decrease in the latency to first immobility and climbing time in the forced swim test.

The Prevalence and Risk Factors of Acute Kidney Injury during Colistin Therapy: A Retrospective Cohort Study from Lebanon.

Introduction: The current study aimed to determine the prevalence, risk factors, and stages of severity of acute kidney injury (AKI) caused by colistimethate sodium (CMS) treatment in patients diagnosed with systemic antibiotic-resistant Gram-negative bacterial infections. The predictors of all-cause mortality in this patient population were also examined.

Methods: This retrospective cohort study included patients who were admitted to a university-affiliated hospital and acute tertiary care referral center in Beirut, Lebanon between January 2015 and December 2018 and underwent CMS treatment for a period of 48 h or more.

Temporal lobe epilepsy (TLE) often courses with cognitive deficits, but its underlying neuronal basis remains unclear. Confluent data suggest that epilepsy share pathophysiological mechanisms with neurodegenerative diseases. However, as most studies analyze subjects 60 years old and older, it is challenging to rule out that neurodegenerative changes arise from age-related mechanisms rather than epilepsy in these individuals.
