COVID-19 pandemic burnout in an Italian sample of anaesthesiologists: coping strategies, resilience and the capability of tolerating the uncertainty as preventing factors.

The present study aims to explore the prevalence of burnout characteristics and their association with resilience, coping strategies, and the intolerance of uncertainty dimensions. It also aims to explore the predictive effect of these variables on burnout dimensions, separately. Through the SurveyMonkey platform, 1,009 anaesthesiologists completed the Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI), Resilience Scale, Intolerance of Uncertainty Scale Short Form (IU), and the Coping Inventory for Stressful Situations (CISS).

Conjugal amyotrophic lateral sclerosis: a report on a couple from Sardinia, Italy.

A conjugal case of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) observed in Sardinia, Italy is reported. This is believed to be the ninth such observation described in the literature. The couple had lived together for 38 years in a house adjacent to the distillery they owned.

[A social study of a group of depressed patients recovering in a private clinic].

Depression is a widespread illness in Sardinia and is treated mainly in private clinics which accept National Health patients. The aim of the present study was to evidence socio-demographic and clinical characteristics of depressed subjects who turn to these clinics. Furthermore we will examine the reason which led to the choice of a private clinic on the basis of services provided by the same, of those available in public hospitals and of patients' psychopathological history and socioeconomic characteristics.

Chordoma of the cervical spine. Case report.

We present a case of chordoma of cervical spine with spinal cord compression at the level C4-C5-C6 in a woman of 65 years old. The diagnosis depends on the results of the histological studies and especially the studies of the labeled elements as protein S 100. For the operation was used an anterior approach and a somatectomy of the interested vertebrae.

Epilepsy in congenital lipodystrophy. Case report.

A case of congenital lipodystrophy complicated by complex-partial epilepsy is reported in a nine-year-old girl. The peculiarity of this rare case is represented by partial complex epilepsy with diffuse electroencephalographic alterations represented by a continuous seizure-like pattern that persisted unmodified despite the successful antiepileptic treatment. Although the etiopathology of lipodystrophy is, at present, still elusive, we hypothesize that the primitive dysfunction of lipidic metabolism plays a critical role in both determining central nervous system (CNS) alterations and the findings that characterized this extremely rare disease.

Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis in Sardinia, Italy: an epidemiologic study.

The authors carried out an epidemiologic study on amyotrophic lateral sclerosis in Sardinia for the years 1957 through 1990. The duration of the disease and survival were significantly shorter in bulbar form. The distribution of ALS in various areas of the island was found to be not at all homogeneous.

Allopurinol add-on treatment in intractable seizures.

Recent reports in clinical literature have suggested an antiepileptic effect of the xanthine oxidase inhibitor Allopurinol (ALL) when added to traditional drugs. However, other reports have failed to confirm beneficial effects of this drug. In view of these conflicting results, we have carried out a study aimed at evaluate the effects of ALL in different forms of epilepsy.

Fahr's disease in postthyroidectomy hypoparathyroidism. A case report.

The onset of Fahr's disease in a patient with postoperative hypoparathyroidism is described. The genesis of this rare pathological occurrence could be ascribed, in our opinion, to the combined action of "local" (precedent encephalic circulation disorders) and "general" factors (Ca and P metabolism disorders following postoperative hypoparathyroidism).

Epidemiologic study of hepatolenticular degeneration (Wilson's disease) in Sardinia (1902-1983).

From 1902 to 1983, 68 cases of hepatolenticular degeneration (HLD) were discovered in Sardinia, with a mean frequency, in reference to number of live births, of 27.7 and a sex ratio of 1.83.

Computerized cranial tomography in presymptomatic and hepatic form of Wilson's disease.

Computerized cranial tomography was performed in 14 patients affected with hepatolenticular degeneration (4 presymptomatic and 10 with a hepatic form). 1 case showed brain stem atrophy with atypically located hypodense areas and another subject showed frontal atrophy with prevalence to the right side. The abnormalities found in another 7 cases were slight.
