The role of urine prostate cancer antigen 3 mRNA levels in the diagnosis of prostate cancer among Hong Kong Chinese patients.

Objective: To establish and verify the utility of measuring urine prostate cancer antigen 3 (PCA3) mRNA levels in the diagnosis of prostate cancer among Hong Kong Chinese patients.

Design: Cross-sectional study.

Setting: Urology Unit of a regional hospital in Hong Kong.

A rigidifying salt-bridge favors the activity of thermophilic enzyme at high temperatures at the expense of low-temperature activity.

Background: Thermophilic enzymes are often less active than their mesophilic homologues at low temperatures. One hypothesis to explain this observation is that the extra stabilizing interactions increase the rigidity of thermophilic enzymes and hence reduce their activity. Here we employed a thermophilic acylphosphatase from Pyrococcus horikoshii and its homologous mesophilic acylphosphatase from human as a model to study how local rigidity of an active-site residue affects the enzymatic activity.

Victimization and Relational Aggression in Adolescent Romantic Relationships: The Influence of Parental and Peer Behaviors, and Individual Adjustment.

Consistent with the view that adolescent relationships are established in the context of important characteristics of their social networks, we examined the effects of adolescents' experiences of parenting (psychological control and positive monitoring) and of peer aggression and victimization, on their self reports of dating victimization and aggression. We also examined the effects of individual differences in emotional and behavioral problems. We used questionnaire data from a population-based sample of youth 12-18 years old who were in dating relationships ( = 149).

Crystallization and preliminary crystallographic analysis of human common-type acylphosphatase.

Human acylphosphatase, an 11 kDa enzyme that catalyzes the hydrolysis of carboxyl phosphate bonds, has been studied extensively as a model system for amyloid-fibril formation. However, the structure is still not known of any isoform of human acylphosphatase. Here, the crystallization and preliminary X-ray diffraction data analysis of human common-type acylphosphatase are reported.
