Youth living in Rural America have increased rates of mental illness and inadequate resources to address their mental health concerns. Programs and systems are currently available to build capacity in pediatric clinicians to care for youth with mental illness and to recruit and support rural clinicians. Such programs should continue to be supported with federal and state funding and additional novel programs aimed at addressing the youth mental health crisis in North America should be developed and funded.

Youths with autism spectrum disorders (ASD) often engage in serious disruptive behaviors that interfere with their ability to successfully manage day-to-day responsibilities and contribute to relationship problems with caregivers, peers, and teachers. Effective treatments are needed to address the factors linked with disruptive behavior problems in this population of youths. Multisystemic therapy (MST) is a comprehensive family- and community-based treatment approach that has been effective with other difficult-to-treat populations of youths and holds promise for youths with ASD.

Objective: The professional literature on Munchausen by Proxy (MBP) abuse consists of more than 400 articles, chapters, and books. Most have come from a handful of English-speaking industrialized countries. Our aims were to establish the extent to which published work about MBP has emerged from outside these countries, and to determine the characteristics of any reported cases.
