Background: Serotonin syndrome is an adverse drug reaction characterised by the excess of serotonin activity in the central nervous system. It is a condition of great concern in primary care where some patients, usually with treatment-resistant depression, get treatment with multiple serotonergic agents.

Case Description: This retrospective case series looked at 20 primary care patients with treatment-resistant depression who developed mild serotonin syndrome after starting a second antidepressant.

Proper assembly and function of the nervous system requires the generation of a uniquely diverse population of neurons expressing a cell-type-specific combination of effector genes that collectively define neuronal morphology, connectivity, and function. How countless partially overlapping but cell-type-specific patterns of gene expression are controlled at the genomic level remains poorly understood. Here we show that neuronal genes are associated with highly complex gene regulatory systems composed of independent cell-type- and cell-stage-specific regulatory elements that reside in expanded non-coding genomic domains.

Group B Streptococcus (GBS) is a leading cause of neonatal meningitis, pneumonia, and sepsis. The biggest contributing factor of neonatal infections is due to vertical transmission from maternal colonisation of GBS in the genitourinary tract. Multiple serotype colonisation is often not investigated in epidemiological studies, but it is an important consideration for serotype-based vaccine development and implementation to ensure less abundant serotypes are not under-represented.
