Background: Little is known about quality of life, sleep, and mental health in children with moyamoya arteriopathy (MMA). A better understanding of patient-reported outcomes may lead to improved treatment.

Pediatric brain tumor survivors demonstrate weaknesses in adaptive functioning, most notably practical adaptive skills; however, the specific areas of weakness within practical skills are unknown. This study examined the aspects of practical adaptive functions that are most impacted in brain tumor survivors, and identified medical and socio-demographic variables that predicted outcomes. The sample included 117 pediatric brain tumor patients seen for a clinical neuropsychological evaluation and whose parents completed the Adaptive Behavior Assessment System, Second or Third Edition.

Cognitive disengagement syndrome (CDS, previously referred to as sluggish cognitive tempo) is a unique set of symptoms distinct from ADHD inattentive symptoms that appear to be independently associated with neuropsychological and psychosocial outcomes in community and ADHD-specific samples of youth. However, our understanding of CDS in individuals with chronic or complex medical conditions is limited. The current systematic review is the first to summarize the literature on CDS prevalence rates and associations with neurocognitive and functional outcomes in youth with medical conditions, and to discuss areas of future research to guide clinical intervention.

Children with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) demonstrate reduced response inhibition, increased response time variability, and atypical frontal lobe white matter microstructure with emerging evidence of sex differences. Missed patient appointments have a substantial negative impact on patient care, child health and well-being, and clinic functioning. This study aims to identify health system interface and child/family demographic characteristics as potential predictors of appointment attendance in a pediatric outpatient neuropsychology clinic. Pediatric patients ( = 6,976 across 13,362 scheduled appointments) who attended versus missed scheduled appointments at a large, urban assessment clinic were compared on a broad array of factors extracted from the medical record, and the cumulative impact of significant risk factors was examined.

Neurological morbidity is common after pediatric stroke, with moderate to severe deficits that can significantly impact education and social function. Care and recovery occur in phases distinguished by the time interval after stroke onset. These phases include the hyperacute and acute periods in which the focus is on cerebral reperfusion and prevention of neurological deterioration, followed by the subacute and chronic phases in which the focus is on secondary stroke prevention and mitigation of disability through rehabilitation, adaptation, and reintegration into the community.

Introduction: Moyamoya arteriopathy is a severe, progressive cerebral arteriopathy that places affected children at high risk for stroke. Moyamoya has been associated with a range of neuropsychological deficits in adults, but data on many cognitive domains remain limited in the pediatric population and little is known about the neuropsychological profile of children with syndromic moyamoya.

Pediatric stroke results in life-long morbidity for many patients, but the outcomes can vary depending on factors such as age of injury, or mechanism, size, and location of stroke. In this review, we summarize the current understanding of outcomes in different neurological domains (eg, motor, cognitive, language) for children with stroke of different mechanisms (ie, arterial ischemic stroke, cerebral sinus venous thrombosis, and hemorrhagic stroke), but with a focus on World Health Organization International Classification for Functioning, Disability, and Health (ICF-CY) framework for measuring health and disability for children and youth. We describe outcomes for the population as a whole and certain factors that may further refine prognostication.

Objective: There is increasing interest in the utilization of proton beam radiation therapy (PRT) to treat pediatric brain tumors based upon presumed advantages over traditional photon radiation therapy (XRT). PRT provides more conformal radiation to the tumor with reduced dose to healthy brain parenchyma. Sluggish Cognitive Tempo (SCT) describes a pattern of under-activity, poor initiation, and slowness. It was first reported within the Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) literature and found to be positively associated with the inattentive symptoms of ADHD and negatively or not significantly associated with the hyperactivity/impulsivity symptoms of ADHD. SCT has since been considered applicable to the pediatric oncology population given the emergence of inattentive, sluggish symptoms secondary to cancer treatment.

Parents of children with neonatal stroke offer critical insight into potential avenues to direct neuropsychological care from the time of diagnosis through the early years. The aims of this study were to (1) describe what parents remember about early prognostic discussions with the medical team and (2) to examine the relationships between initial prognoses and the child's current neurodevelopmental status and parents' mental health.
