We present the case of a woman with nonhepatic hyperammonemic encephalopathy, a rare complication of bariatric surgery. Proposed mechanism include underlying urea cycle disorders and increased ammonia production. Clinically, states of hyperammonemia present with predominantly neurological symptoms of behavioral disturbances, lethargy, seizures, and coma.

Since COVID-19 took a strong hold around the globe causing considerable morbidity and mortality, a lot of effort was dedicated to manufacturing effective vaccines against SARS-CoV-2. Negative elongation factor-B (NELF-B), also known as cofactor of BRCA1 (COBRA1), is one of the four subunits of the NELF complex. It interacts with BRCA1, in addition to other transcription complexes in various tissues. The NELF complex represses the transcription of several genes by stalling RNA polymerase II during the early phase of transcription elongation.
