Endowing a NAO Robot With Practical Social-Touch Perception.

Social touch is essential to everyday interactions, but current socially assistive robots have limited touch-perception capabilities. Rather than build entirely new robotic systems, we propose to augment existing rigid-bodied robots with an external touch-perception system. This practical approach can enable researchers and caregivers to continue to use robotic technology they have already purchased and learned about, but with a myriad of new social-touch interactions possible.

A Robotic Framework to Facilitate Sensory Experiences for Children with Autism Spectrum Disorder: A Preliminary Study.

The diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in children is commonly accompanied by a diagnosis of sensory processing disorders. Abnormalities are usually reported in multiple sensory processing domains, showing a higher prevalence of unusual responses, particularly to tactile, auditory and visual stimuli. This paper discusses a novel robot-based framework designed to target sensory difficulties faced by children with ASD in a controlled setting.

This paper discusses a novel framework designed to improve human-robot interaction through robotic imitation of a participant's gestures. In our experiment, a humanoid robotic agent socializes with and plays games with a participant.

Role of CTLA-4, IL-18 and IL-10 on the Induction of Low Dose Oral Tolerance.

Oral Tolerance is the temporary loss of systemic immunological responsiveness to a specific soluble antigen after ingestion of that antigen. Results from our lab and others indicated that CTLA-4 and lack of IL-12 played a role in the induction of low dose oral tolerance at the Th1 cell level. Previous literature suggested that IL-18 also played a role in preventing oral tolerance induction while the cytokine IL-10 had been shown to be a factor contributing to suppressed immune responses.
