Selenium (Se) is an essential element for humans. However, much of the world's human population is deficient in this element, which has become a public health problem. This study aimed to evaluate whether applying severe water stress to wheat plants ( L.

Therefore, we evaluated the tolerance of high-biomass grasses to Cd by measuring biomass production and element accumulation and valued them for their suitability for phytoextraction or phytostabilization purposes on moderately Cd-polluted land (total Cd concentration of 7.5 mg kg) by determining Cd accumulation in the plants and calculating the bioconcentration (Cd BCF) and translocation factors (Cd TF).

Methods: Forty rats were distributed into four groups. Two groups were treated with a standard diet and considered nourished (I and II).
Background: Literature has demonstrated hypoglossal nerve stimulation to be a safe and effective treatment for patients with obstructive sleep apnea nonadherent to positive airway pressure therapy. However, the recommended criteria for patient selection are still unable to identify all the unresponsive patients, highlighting the need for improved understanding about hypoglossal nerve stimulation for obstructive sleep apnea.
Case Presentation: A 48-year-old Caucasian male patient with obstructive sleep apnea had been successfully treated with electrical stimulation of the hypoglossal nerve trunk, documented by level 1 polysomnography data.
Maple Syrup Urine Disease (MSUD) is an autosomal recessive inborn error of metabolism (IEM), responsible for the accumulation of the branched-chain amino acids (BCAA) leucine, isoleucine, and valine, in addition to their α-keto acids α-ketoisocaproic acid (KIC), α-keto-β-methylvaleric acid (KMV), and α-ketoisovaleric acid (KIV) in the plasma and urine of patients. This process occurs due to a partial or total blockage of the dehydrogenase enzyme activity of branched-chain α-keto acids. Oxidative stress and inflammation are conditions commonly observed on IEM, and the inflammatory response may play an essential role in the pathophysiology of MSUD.

Thus, we evaluated the interaction Cd-Se and the effects of soil pH in this interaction on plant availability of Cd and phytoextraction efficiency of Urochloa decumbens cv. Basilisk grown in Oxisol.

Heart rate variability, somatic and cognitive anxiety and self-confidence (by CSAI-2R questionnaire) were evaluated in nine male futsal players from a professional U-20 team, before competitive matches at the quarter-final, semi-final and final stages played at home and away venues. Two-way ANOVA for repeated measures was used, considering factor one the game location and factor two the playoff stage, with significance set at p<0.

Material And Methods: 29 OSA patients aged 22-65 years with an indication to undergo DISE to evaluate an alternative treatment to PAP and signed the consent form. Patients over 65 years old with maxillofacial deficiency and BMI>30 were excluded.
Obstructive Sleep Apnea is characterized by recurrent episodes of partial or complete collapse of the pharynx, followed by decreased oxyhemoglobin saturation and frequent arousals. It is regarded as a public health issue with important night and day symptoms that impact life quality. Its effects are associated with the areas of competence of Speech and Language Pathologists.

For this reason, many chemical, physical, and biological processes of remediation have been developed to reduce the (available) trace element concentrations in the environment. Among those technologies, phytoremediation is an environmentally friendly and cost-effective approach to remediate sites with low-to-moderate pollution with trace elements.

However, there is still conflicting information about the interactions of these two nutrients, thus a better understanding of nutritional homeostasis is needed. The objective of this work was to evaluate responses of photosynthesis parameters, P-Zn nutritional homeostasis and antioxidant metabolism to variation in the P × Zn supply of cotton (Gossypium hirsutum L.

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of flavonoid and metronidazole use in the postoperative period on patients undergoing excisional hemorrhoidectomy.
Methods: A double-blind randomized clinical study was performed.
The bioaccumulation of trace elements (TEs) in crops consumed by humans can reduce food production as a consequence of photosynthetic damage in plants and cause several diseases in humans. Liming is a soil management strategy designed to alleviate soil acidity and mitigating these problems by reducing the TE bioavailability. In this study, we evaluated the effect of liming on photosynthesis, growth, and bioaccumulation of barium (Ba), cadmium (Cd), copper (Cu), nickel (Ni), or zinc (Zn) in lettuce (Lactuca sativa L.

The present study aimed to identify by DISE possible characteristics related to low compliance with PAP therapy due to respiratory complaints.
Methods: Patients using PAP for OSA underwent DISE in two conditions: (1) baseline (without PAP) and (2) PAP (with the same mask and airway pressure used at home).
Objective: To evaluate the efficacy of Nd:YAG laser associated with calcium-phosphate desensitizing pastes on dentin permeability and tubule occlusion after erosive/abrasive challenges.
Methodology: Dentin specimens were exposed to 17% ethylene diamine tetra-acetic acid (EDTA) solution for 5 min and randomly allocated into five groups: G1, control (no treatment); G2, Nd:YAG laser (1 W, 10 Hz, 100 mJ, 85 J/cm2); G3, Laser + TeethmateTM Desensitizer; G4, Laser + Desensibilize Nano P; and G5, Laser+Nupro®. Specimens underwent a 5-day erosion-abrasion cycling.
Study Objectives: Acquiring a better comprehension of obstructive sleep apnea physiopathology can contribute to improving patient selection for surgical treatments. We hypothesize that maxillary transverse deficiency restricts the space available for the tongue, leading to upper airway obstruction during sleep. Our primary hypothesis was that maxillary transverse deficiency increases the prevalence of tongue collapse during drug-induced sleep endoscopy (DISE).

The interactions between soil properties, microorganisms, plant species and climate affect cadmium (Cd) availability in tropical soils. In this study, we investigated the effects of simulated summer and winter conditions on Cd fractionation and bacterial communities in Oxisols and on growth of two high biomass production-grasses (Brachiaria decumbens and Panicum maximum) that were evaluated for their Cd phytoextraction potential. We also assessed how these interactions could influence the availability of Cd and its possible phytoextraction by these grasses.

Methods: Prospective study. Patients requiring PAP due to obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) were evaluated through DISE at three different moments: (1) a baseline condition (without PAP); (2) PAP treatment with a nasal mask; and (3) PAP with an oronasal mask at the same pressure.
