Z boson events at the Large Hadron Collider can be selected with high purity and are sensitive to a diverse range of QCD phenomena. As a result, these events are often used to probe the nature of the strong force, improve Monte Carlo event generators, and search for deviations from standard model predictions. All previous measurements of Z boson production characterize the event properties using a small number of observables and present the results as differential cross sections in predetermined bins.

Objectives: To assess strategies for optimizing participation of underserved minorities in a blood-based early CRC detection test study (PREEMPT CRC; NCT04369053) at a hospital serving primarily Black patients.
Methods: Culturally sensitive, racially congruent research staff approached patients undergoing average-risk screening colonoscopy. Consent/study procedures were synchronized with clinical appointments.
Background: The Pre-EMPT study aimed to determine if structured exercise could reduce length of stay, post-operative complications and improve fitness and health-related quality of life (HQRL) in patients undergoing neoadjuvant chemotherapy (NAC) and oesophagectomy.
Methods: A prospective non-randomised trial compared a standard care pathway (control) to a structured prehabilitation exercise programme (intervention) commenced before NAC and surgery for oesophageal adenocarcinoma. Length of hospital stay and post-operative complications were recorded.
Introduction: Human mobility is associated with an increased risk of HIV acquisition and disengagement from HIV care, leading to poorer health outcomes among highly mobile individuals compared to less mobile individuals. Mobile individuals, broadly defined as those who temporally, seasonally, or permanently move from one place to another for voluntary or involuntary reasons, face many challenges in accessing HIV care services. These challenges include logistical difficulties, interruptions in HIV care continuity, and limited access to services across different locations, which together hinder timely testing, treatment initiation, and viral suppression.

A mortality event in 2022 in the Pelorus Sound, Marlborough, was linked to high water temperatures (> 18°C), and bacterial skin disease associated with Piscirickettsia spp. (=Rickettsia-like organisms) and Tenacibaculum species.

Here we considered models for esophageal adenocarcinoma (EAC), a cancer that has dramatically increased in incidence over the past few decades in Western populations, with high case fatality rates due to late-stage diagnoses. Despite advancements in genomic analyses of the precursor Barrett's esophagus (BE), prevention of late-stage EAC remains a significant clinical challenge.

Early detection and effective management are critical to mitigating adverse outcomes such as stroke, heart failure, and overall mortality. Wearable devices have emerged as promising tools for monitoring, detecting, and managing atrial arrhythmias near-continuously.

Phosphoflow has wide application for basic research into the mechanics of cell signaling, for evaluating aberrant signaling in cancerous cells and tissues, for studying efficacy or off-target effects during drug and vaccine development, and for functional assessment of pathogenic variants of genes that are known to play a role in development or function of the immune system. Phosphoflow has not been widely adopted in clinical laboratories owing to the challenges with developing and validating robust assays consistent with clinical laboratory regulatory standards.

This suite, known as the Máaz formation (fm), includes dark-toned basaltic/trachy-basaltic rocks with intergrown pyroxene, plagioclase feldspar, and altered olivine and overlying trachy-andesitic lava with reversely zoned plagioclase phenocrysts in a K-rich groundmass. Feldspar thermal disequilibrium textures indicate that they were carried from their crustal staging area.

However, no comparative studies on LDI outcomes exist.
Objective: To evaluate outpatient outcomes associated with 2 LDI protocols of buprenorphine among individuals with opioid use disorder (OUD) using fentanyl.
Objectives: The global mpox (clade II) outbreak of 2022 primarily affected gay, bisexual, and other men who have sex with men (GBM) and was met with swift community and public health responses. We aimed to estimate the relative impact of changes in sexual behaviours, contact tracing/isolation, and first-dose vaccination on transmission in Canadian cities.
Methods: We estimated changes in sexual behaviours during the outbreak using 2022 data from the Engage Cohort Study which recruited self-identified GBM in Montréal, Toronto, and Vancouver (n=1,445).
Purpose: Regulating intraocular pressure (IOP), mainly via the trabecular meshwork (TM), is critical in developing glaucoma. Whereas current treatments aim to lower IOP, directly targeting the dysfunctional TM tissue for therapeutic intervention has proven challenging. In our study, we utilized Dexamethasone (Dex)-treated TM cells as a model to investigate how extracellular vesicles (EVs) from immortalized corneal stromal stem cells (imCSSCs) could influence ANGPTL7 and MYOC genes expression within TM cells.

Necrotizing wound infections are potentially lethal complications of surgeries, including cesarean deliveries. A 32-year-old female with obesity and hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) underwent uncomplicated cesarean section. Four days later, she developed abdominal pain and imaging showed ascites; she was treated with antibiotics.

Five Clinical Sequencing Evidence-Generating Research (CSER) consortium studies performed GS in children with suspected genetic conditions with high proportions of individuals from underserved groups to address this evidence gap.
Methods: Parents completed surveys of perceived understanding, personal utility, and test-related distress after GS result disclosure.
Importance: There has been a great deal of interest in mild traumatic brain injury (mTBI) and posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and their association with one another, yet their interaction and subsequent associations with long-term outcomes remain poorly understood.
Objective: To compare the long-term outcomes of mTBI that occurred in the context of psychological trauma (peritraumatic context) with mTBI that did not (nonperitraumatic context).
Design, Setting, And Participants: This cohort study of post-9/11 US veterans used data from the Translational Research Center for Traumatic Brain Injury and Stress Disorders (TRACTS) study at the Veterans Affairs Boston Healthcare System, which began in 2009; the current study utilized data from baseline TRACTS visits conducted between 2009 and 2024.

We show that VTN regulates tissue remodeling through urokinase plasminogen activator (uPA) signaling pathway in COPD. In human COPD airways and bronchoepithelial cells and the airways of mice with cigarette smoke (CS)-induced experimental COPD, VTN protein was not changed, but downstream uPA signaling was altered (increased plasminogen activator inhibitor-1, uPAR) that induced collagen and airway remodeling.

Despite approved influenza antiviral treatments, there is an unmet need for treatments that can improve outcomes in populations at risk for respiratory failure, including tobacco users with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). Here we show that the sialidase fusion protein, DAS181, reduced viral burden, mitigated inflammation, and attenuated lung function loss, consistent with broad-spectrum anti-influenza responses in a mouse model of COPD and IFV-A infection.

While thrombocytopenia's link to mortality is known, the prognostic impact of longitudinal trajectories of platelet indices in combination with analysis of thrombocytopenia's mediating role remains unexplored. This is the first study that addresses this significant gap by investigating the association between seven platelet indices trajectory subphenotypes and ICU mortality, considering thrombocytopenia's mediating influence. Four hundred and twenty-one adult ICU patients were enrolled in this longitudinal cohort study.

Despite advances in medical management, drug-resistant epilepsy remains common. Evidence suggests that metastatic breast cancers mislocalize V-ATPase to the plasma membrane to promote cell survival and facilitate metastasis, making the V-ATPase a potential drug target. We have generated a library of camelid single-domain antibodies (Nanobodies; Nbs) against lipid-nanodisc reconstituted yeast V-ATPase V proton channel subcomplex.
