Introduction: Low grade appendiceal mucinous neoplasms (LAMN) are indolent tumors that lack invasive potential but may present as pseudomyxoma peritonei. Cytoreductive surgery (CRS) and hyperthermic intraperitoneal chemotherapy (HIPEC) significantly improves both overall and recurrence free survival. While systemic chemotherapy is generally considered ineffective for LAMN, little literature is available to support this notion.

Previous studies of microbial community structure in hydrothermal sediments have typically used short-read sequencing approaches. To improve on these approaches, we use LoopSeq, a high-throughput synthetic long-read sequencing method that has yielded promising results in analyses of microbial ecosystems, such as the human gut microbiome.

Proton therapy (PT) can be used to mitigate cardiac radiation exposure; however, PT remains a scarce resource in the United States. We report on the cardiovascular profiles of patients undergoing PT to determine the potential benefit of PT for Black women when compared to non-Black patients.

Yet, until recently, we lacked adequate data to accurately differentiate between globally distributed marine and terrestrial surface and subsurface microbiomes. Here, we analyzed 478 archaeal and 964 bacterial metabarcoding datasets and 147 metagenomes from diverse and widely distributed environments.

Background: The current state of training in HPB surgery in North America is defined through three main pathways: the Complex General Surgical Oncology (CGSO), the Americas HPB Association fellowship, and the American Society of Transplant surgeons fellowship. Each pathway offers a unique perspective on HPB surgery with different number of training years, yet outcomes of graduates performing HP surgery relative to type of fellowship training have not been defined.
Background: Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) have recently been introduced into the treatment algorithm of patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). However, the cost effectiveness of ICIs compared with pre-existing therapies for HCC has not been assessed. We performed a meta-analysis to understand the incremental cost effectiveness of ICIs compared with sorafenib.

Methods: Patients with NELM who underwent TACE or transarterial embolization (TAE) at a single institution between 2000-2022 were retrospectively reviewed. Propensity score matching (PSM) controlling for age, sex, bilateral disease, tumor size, lobar embolization, grade, and extrahepatic disease was utilized to compare short- and long-term outcomes.
Background And Objectives: Hepatic artery infusion pump (HAIP) therapy is an available option at highly specialized centers to treat unresectable liver tumors (e.g., colorectal liver metastases [CRLM]).

Pancreatic adenocarcinoma is an aggressive malignancy that often presents with advanced disease. Accurate staging is essential for treatment planning and shared decision-making with patients. Staging laparoscopy is a minimally invasive procedure that can detect radiographically occult metastatic disease.

Thus, understanding the molecular basis of WNV infections in mammalian hosts is important to develop improved diagnostic and treatment strategies. In this context, the role of microRNAs (miRNAs) has been analyzed by several studies under different conditions and with different outcomes.

We employed grounded theory methods to conduct interviews and focus groups with 48 key stakeholders in child welfare to deepen our theoretical understanding of therapeutic relationships with foster youth. The central theory that emerged was that a successful therapeutic relationship is an essential ingredient of the healing process for current and former foster youth.

In this study, the research team conducted interviews and focus groups with stakeholders (n = 48) in child welfare to learn how to support therapeutic relationships with foster youth clients. Using qualitative content analysis, the research team identified eight categories for needed knowledge and/or skills, such as collaboration with and inclusion of others in a client's system; flexibility and open-mindedness to individualize care follow the client's lead; and a solid understanding of trauma and attachment supported by therapist training and regular consultation specifically around foster care.

Because of their recalcitrance to cultivation, most previous studies of MMB have been limited to microscopic observations. To study the biology of these unique organisms in more detail, we use multiple culture-independent approaches to analyze the genomics and physiology of MMB consortia at single-cell resolution.

Treatment outcomes for patients with colorectal cancer (CRC) PM undergoing CRS+HIPEC with microsatellite instability (MSI) remain unknown. We examined the patient characteristics and outcomes in patients with MSI CRC after CRS+HIPEC.

Introduction: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is a primary liver cancer that commonly arises in the background of chronic liver inflammation and/or cirrhosis. Chronic liver inflammation results in the production of different growth factors, remodeling of the microenvironment architecture into fibrosis, and eventually carcinogenesis. Overexpression of some growth factors has been associated with worse prognosis in patients with HCC.

Pancreatic adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is disease with a 5-year survival of only 12%. Many patients with PDAC present with late-stage disease and even early-stage disease can often be characterized by an aggressive tumor biology. Standard therapy for metastatic PDAC consists mainly of chemotherapy regimens like FOLFIRINOX, FOLFOX, or gemcitabine and nab-paclitaxel.
