In five patients with radiolucent gallstones, the effect of ursodeoxycholic acid (Urso) in doses of 250, 500, 750, 1,000, and 1,250 mg per day on biliary lipid and bile acid composition was studied. Biliary cholesterol decreased from 8.8 +/- 0.

The influence of atrial fibrillation on coronary circulation was studied in 21 anesthetized open-chest dogs. Atrial fibrillation was induced either by local application of acetylcholine (10% in normal saline) on the left atrial appendage or by electric stimulation (2-7 volts, 2 ms, 50 Hz). When atrial fibrillation was induced (n = 10), mean aortic pressure fell and heart rate rose significantly; coronary blood flow (CBF) remained unchanged (78 +/- 6 vs.

A chromatographic separation of glucuronidated bile acids using the anion exchanger diethylaminohydroxypropyl Sephadex LH-20 (DEAP LH-20) is described. Group separation of non-sulfated, non-glucuronidated bile acids, bile acid glucuronides, bile acid monosulfates, and bile acid disulfates was obtained. The method allowed analysis of all these bile acid derivatives in the urine of 15 patients with cirrhosis of the liver and cholestasis.
