The interaction of highly purified Pseudomonas aeruginosa cytotoxin (PAC) with murine splenocytes was examined. Added at culture initiation, PAC (0.1 to 0.

Very few attempts to describe, codify , and implement analysis of intrauterine pressure data have occurred in the past. With a growing interest in intrauterine pressure during dysmenorrhea, the need for new ways of evaluating pressure data have become more acute. The availability of fast, compact microcomputers to process these data provides a tool which may make this goal attainable.

Presence of infection was determined by patient examination and chart review. Urine specimens from 94% of patients were cultured.

Susceptibilities of 98 clinical isolates of Pseudomonas aeruginosa, including 33 strains with known mechanisms of amikacin resistance, were tested by the agar dilution method against 10 beta-lactam drugs. Ceftazidime, imipenem, and cefsulodin had the greatest activity, regardless of the aminoglycoside susceptibilities. The strains which were highly resistant to amikacin appeared to be less susceptible to some beta-lactam drugs, especially if their resistance was related to amikacin-inactivating enzymes; statistical significance, however, was observed for aztreonam only.

Moxalactam was administered in single or multiple intravenous or intramuscular doses. Rapid and complete intramuscular bioavailability was demonstrated in a subgroup of the study population.

The minimal concentration at which 90% of strains were inhibited by amifloxacin was lowest for Escherichia coli and Klebsiella sp (less than or equal to 0.125 microgram/ml), followed by Proteus sp (less than or equal to 0.

Although many methods were devised, the intrauterine balloon, used in the first successful attempt to evaluate activity of the gravid uterus in 1872, remained the standard by which other methods were judged. Alternate methods (such as the open catheter technique, hysterosalpingography, electrouterography, and external hysterography) were limited by cumbersome equipment, inaccurate gauges, difficulty in construction, excessive uterine irritation, and restriction of patient movement.

P aeruginosa bacteremia is a nosocomial disease with a high mortality occurring in colonized, debilitated, and leukopenic patients and in those receiving immunosuppressive and antimicrobial agents [2]. Outbreaks of P aeruginosa bacteremia have often been associated with environmental reservoirs [3]. The 190 strains of P aeruginosa described in this study represent single isolates from bacteremic patients during an eight-year period.

Susceptibility to chronic hypoxia in the form of simulated high altitude (HA) have been compared in the adult male Hilltop (H) and Madison (M) Sprague-Dawley rats in terms of their metabolic, hematological and cardiopulmonary responses. Following exposure to either 18 000 or 20 000 ft for 30-40 days, 60-70% of the H rats died or became obviously morbid in contrast to a total absence of morbidity or mortality in the M rats. Autopsy of dead and morbid H rats revealed abdominal and pleural effusions.

The marked difference in the two preparations was in the progestogen content, allowing the study of the metabolic effects of high and low progestogen in oral contraception. The results suggest that high progestogen increases serum sodium, potassium, blood urea nitrogen, creatinine, total protein, albumen, and lactic dehydrogenase.

Two unrelated, white, female, premature infants in the same hospital nursery contemporaneously exhibited features of an acute, Heinz body hemolytic anemia: decreased levels of hemoglobin and hematocrit, anisocytosis, fragmented cells, hyperbilirubinemia, reticulocytosis, and red cell inclusion bodies. Physical examination and laboratory studies failed to reveal the etiology of this process. Epidemiologic studies indicated a possible association between the reaction and the improper use and inappropriately high concentration of a phenolic disinfectant.

All the organosilver compounds were extremely water-insoluble. For animal studies these, and other reference compounds, were given as fine suspensions in an Emulphor-safflower oil mixture.
