Background: Superior labral tears are common shoulder injuries among athletes, and for athletes undergoing surgical intervention, one of the main priorities is to return to preinjury levels of activity in a timely manner. However, the literature surrounding return to play after superior labral repair presents inconsistent results, with limited studies evaluating the timing of return to play.

Purpose: To systematically review the rate and timing of return to play in athletes after arthroscopic superior labral repair.

Fish stocking has been utilized for over a century to offset extirpations or declines in abundance of many native species. These historical declines and hatchery contributions have led to uncertainty surrounding whether many contemporary populations are native, introgressed with hatchery sources, or entirely of hatchery origin. Such uncertainty is problematic for the conservation of native biodiversity as it hampers management agencies' ability to prioritize the conservation of indigenous locally adapted populations.

Article Synopsis
  • - Dedifferentiated liposarcoma (DDL) is a rare and aggressive subtype typically found in the retroperitoneum, with challenging diagnostics, especially when it occurs in the mesentery as documented in very few cases.
  • - A 76-year-old woman was discovered to have a large mesenteric mass incidentally while being treated for pneumonia, leading to surgery where a tumor adherent to the intestine was removed and identified as intermediate-grade DDL.
  • - The case emphasizes the need to include mesenteric DDL in the differential diagnosis of large abdominal masses, highlighting that complete surgical resection is crucial for treatment, alongside regular follow-ups due to its aggressive nature.

A small, pristinely preserved specimen recently collected from the Dolese Brothers limestone quarry near Richards Spur, Oklahoma provides evidence for the presence of a new early Permian parareptile at this locality. The specimen includes an articulated, nearly complete skull roof, and with the right premaxilla, right quadratojugal, most of the right palate, as well as the right epipterygoid and the sphenethmoid preserved inside. Although similar in many respects to the other contemporary parareptiles , and , it can be distinguished from other acleistorhinids by the presence of a number of autapomorphies related to its dentition.

The prolapse of a pedunculated juvenile rectal polyp is a rare event. It occurs when the polyp protrudes through the anus and appears as a fleshy mass at the anus, leading to an alarming scenario for both the parent and patient and typically prompting a visit to the emergency department (ED). We report a case of a five-year-old male patient who presented to the ED with a prolapsed rectal mass.

Methicillin-sensitive (MSSA) is a gram-positive, coagulase-positive coccus implicated in the pathogenesis of infective endocarditis (IE) due to intravenous drug use (IDU). The tricuspid valve is the most commonly affected valve; however, there is an increased incidence of mitral valve involvement. In this case report, we present a 41-year-old female with no known past medical history but a social history significant for IDU who presented with MSSA bacteremia, sepsis, and IE with vegetations on the mitral valve.

Article Synopsis
  • Industrial pollution, particularly from mining, has led to significant metal contamination in some rivers in southwest England, yet brown trout are adapting to these harsh conditions.
  • Researchers conducted genomic and transcriptomic analyses of trout populations from both metal-impacted and control rivers, discovering genetic differences and evidence of natural selection at various loci associated with metal tolerance.
  • The study found that metal-impacted trout exhibited higher levels of harmful metals in their tissues and identified many differentially expressed genes related to detoxification, ion transport, and stress response, indicating an adaptive response to environmental pollution.

Article Synopsis
  • Palliative care (PC) enhances quality of life for patients with metastatic cancer by alleviating symptoms and aiding in advance care planning, but it is frequently misunderstood and underused.
  • A study surveyed patients with metastatic spine tumors (MSTs) to explore barriers to understanding PC, comparing their responses with a broader population from the HINTS 5 database.
  • The results showed that MST patients had a better grasp of PC than the general public but over 25% still lacked understanding, indicating a need for improved education about PC and its distinction from hospice care.

In fMRI, capturing brain activity during a task is dependent on how quickly the k-space arrays for each volume image are obtained. Acquiring the full k-space arrays can take a considerable amount of time. Under-sampling k-space reduces the acquisition time, but results in aliased, or "folded," images after applying the inverse Fourier transform (IFT).

The cartilage growth plates in the bones of children enable limb lengthening but are weak relative to the bone, making them prone to fracturing when bones are overloaded. Better treatments for severely fractured growth plates are needed because the response to injury is a bony bridge that prematurely fuses the growth plate, leading to stunted and/or crooked limbs. Murine models of growth plate injury are advantageous for mechanistic studies, but are challenging because it is difficult to visualize and precisely injure the small growth plates in young mice.

Epistemological issues associated with Cantorian set theory were at the center of the foundational debates from 1900 onward. Hermann Weyl, as a central actor, saw this as a smoldering crisis that burst into flames after World War I. The historian Herbert Mehrtens argued that this "foundations crisis" was part of a larger conflict that pitted moderns, led by David Hilbert, against various counter-moderns, who opposed the promotion of set theory and trends toward abstract theories.
