A simple protocol for the Buchwald-Hartwig cross-coupling of (hetero)aryl halides with unprotected aminoglutarimide to afford diverse cereblon binding motifs is disclosed. The development of this C-N cross-coupling method was enabled by high-throughput combinatory screening of solvents, bases, temperatures, and ligands. Scope studies revealed generality across various heteroaryl and aryl halides with the reaction proceeding under mild conditions.

Examination of dental utilization of newly resettled adult refugees in Washington state enrolled in dental medicaid program.

Objective: To assess dental utilization of resettled adult refugees in Washington (WA) state and the demographic factors associated with dental utilization.

Methods: Data were collected between January 1, 2015, and December 31, 2015 for newly arrived adult refugees (>21 years) enrolled in Washington State dental Medicaid program. Three state agencies provided enrollment and claims data that included demographic information as well as number and types of dental claims, and time to first dental claim for the newly resettled adult refugee population.

Training a rural oral health workforce: Effects of rural background on dentist practice choice.

Purpose: The Regional Initiatives in Dental Education (RIDE) program is an educational track of the University of Washington School of Dentistry that aims to produce leaders who practice in rural areas of the Pacific Northwest. This study assesses outcomes of the first 10 years of the RIDE program. The hypothesis tested is that rural background is the most important predictor of long-term rural dental practice.

Introduction: This study aimed to assess carer attitudes towards the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in management of fractures in paediatric patients. Variation in human immune response to the same bacterial or viral pathogen is well established in the literature. Variation in immune response to microbial challenge has also been observed within the human oral cavity. Our recent study focused on characterizing observed variations in microbially induced gingival inflammation-resulting in three distinct clinical Inflammatory Responder Types (IRTs): High-IRT, Low-IRT, and Slow-IRT.

Monoamines' role in islet cell function and type 2 diabetes risk.

The two monoamines serotonin and melatonin have recently been highlighted as potent regulators of islet hormone secretion and overall glucose homeostasis in the body. In fact, dysregulated signaling of both amines are implicated in β-cell dysfunction and development of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM). Serotonin is a key player in β-cell physiology and plays a role in expansion of β-cell mass.

Brominated organic compounds are toxic ocean-derived trace gases that affect the oxidation capacity of the atmosphere and contribute to its bromine burden. Quantitative spectroscopic detection of these gases is limited by the lack of accurate absorption cross-section data as well as rigorous spectroscopic models. This work presents measurements of high-resolution spectra of dibromomethane, CHBr, from 2960 cm to 3120 cm by two optical frequency comb-based methods, Fourier transform spectroscopy and a spatially dispersive method based on a virtually imaged phased array.

Liberté, Égalité, Crédibilité: An experimental study of citizens' perceptions of government responses to COVID-19 in eight countries.

During a global pandemic, individual views of government can be linked to citizens' trust and cooperation with government and their propensity to resist state policies or to take action that influences the course of a pandemic. This article explores citizens' assessments of government responses to COVID-19 as a function of policy substance (restrictions on civil liberties), information about performance, and socioeconomic inequity in outcomes. We conducted a survey experiment and analyzed data on over 7000 respondents from eight democratic countries.

Background: The Pediatric Acute Care Cardiology Collaborative (PAC3) is a learning network focused on improving acute care cardiology patient outcomes. Data submission timeliness is a vulnerability for PAC3 and most clinical registries, directly affecting collaborative benchmarking, quality improvement (QI) and research projects.

Background/objectives: To investigate post-enucleation outcomes and assess the effect of extrascleral extension (ESE) on these outcomes for patients with uveal melanoma (UM) managed at a tertiary referral centre in Scotland.

Subjects/methods: Retrospective review of all cases of UM managed by the Scottish Ocular Oncology Service for which enucleation was undertaken between 13/03/2008 and 31/12/2020. Primary outcomes were length of survival, time-to-metastasis (TTM) and local recurrence rate.

Evaluation of a new low-cost particle sensor as an internet-of-things device for outdoor air quality monitoring.

Many low-cost particle sensors are available for routine air quality monitoring of PM, but there are concerns about the accuracy and precision of the reported data, particularly in humid conditions. The objectives of this study are to evaluate the Sensirion SPS30 particulate matter (PM) sensor against regulatory methods for measurement of real-time particulate matter concentrations and to evaluate the effectiveness of the Intelligent Air sensor pack for remote deployment and monitoring. To achieve this, we co-located the Intelligent Air sensor pack, developed at Clemson University and built around the Sensirion SPS30, to collect data from July 29, 2019, to December 12, 2019, at a regulatory site in Columbia, South Carolina.
