Sorbent materials were developed utilizing two morphological structures, comprising either hexagonally packed pores (HX) or a disordered pore arrangement (CF). The sorbents were functionalized with combinations of two types of alkylammonium groups. When capture of perchlorate by the sorbents was compared, widely varying performance was noted as a result of differing morphology and/or functional group loading.

A three-dimensional sampling grid using passive collectors was used to characterize the downwind gas-phase ammonia plumes originating from a commercial chicken house on the Delmarva Peninsula in the Chesapeake Bay watershed. Inverse Gaussian plume modeling was used to determine the source strength of the chicken house and the corresponding chicken emission factors. A total of seven field deployments were performed during two different flocks with a sampling duration ranging from 6 to 12.

The oxidation state of four transition metals (Fe, Mn, Cu, and Cr) in cloudwater has been investigated during several cloud events at Whiteface Mountain (NY), one cloud event at San Pedro Hill (CA), and one fog event at Bakers-field (CA). Samples were collected and immediately analyzed for the oxidation states of four transition metals: Fe(II) [44 measurements], Cu(I) [30 measurements], Mn(IV) [27 measurements], and Cr(III) [3 measurements]. Extreme care was taken to minimize contamination and interferences when measuring these oxidation states.
