Within 30 days of acute myocardial infarction, 108 consecutive patients underwent urgent surgical myocardial revascularization for postinfarction angina between July 1976 and March 1983. There were 84 men and 24 women whose mean age was 59.6 +/- 9.

The biological half life of D3-3H upon the administration of the isotope by the intravenous route was normal in 2 controls, very low in a subject with tropical sprue who had steatorrhea, and decreased in a subject with tropical sprue who did not present steatorrhea. After the administration of the isotope by the oral route, the biological half life was 35 hours in the control and no radioactivity could be detected in the plasma of the subject with tropical sprue who had steatorrhea.

To compare the efficacy of Carpentier's tricuspid annuloplasty with De Vega's, we prospectively randomized 159 patients, operated upon between January, 1977, and January, 1980, to one of the two techniques: 76 patients were assigned to the Carpentier group and 83 to the De Vega group. The criterion for inclusion in the study was the presence of moderate to severe tricuspid regurgitation. There were no significant differences in mean age, male proportion, type of mitral lesion, incidence of aortic valvulopathy, and other preoperative and perioperative characteristics between the two groups.

There was practically no disruption of the menstrual cycle and no important side effects. Ovulation was inhibited in four subjects, and another four subjects remained ovulatory.

From January 1981 to September 1982, 107 patients have been operated on for valve replacement with the Medtronic-Hall (M-H) prosthesis. Thirty-four of them have had multiple valve replacements and they are the subject of this paper. In 2 cases there were tricuspid replacement, and in 9 other patients some type of tricuspid annuloplasty was performed.

The three pill regimens were associated with an increase in hemoglobin and serum iron after 12 months. However, the iron pill and 63-day schedule groups produced an increase in hemoglobin and iron at the 6th month ans a diminution of IBC at 12 months.

Nevertheless, it has not been possible to reproduce these results in the adult. For this reason, a third drug, in this case adriamycin in a low dose, was added to the vincristine-prednisone combination in the treatment of adult acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL).

Fortification of dairy products with trace metals requires use of assimilable compounds that do not catalyze off-flavors due to lipid peroxidation but show good biological availability. The Fe(III) and Cu(II) chelates of the promising chelator, lactobionic acid, have been compared to Fe(II) and Cu(II) salts for their ability to improve hematological status in a mildly anemic population. Fe- and Cu-fortified cow milk was administered to children (aged 6 to 15) in the Durango, Mexico, "school lunch" program.
