We characterize its performance across 18 built sensor modules. The new sensor implements several improvements over our previously developed sensor including lower vapor-cell operating temperature, improved probe-light detection optics, and reduced optical power requirements.

FDA Global Drug Inspections: Surveillance Of Manufacturing Establishments Remains Well Below Pre-COVID-19 Levels.

During the initial phase of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) halted inspections of most overseas drug manufacturing establishments. Looking at data from the period 2012-22, we observed steep declines in both foreign and domestic inspections in 2020. By 2022, numbers of inspections remained well below prepandemic levels, with a 79 percent decrease in foreign inspections and a 35 percent decline in domestic inspections compared with 2019.

Consequences of a shortage and rationing: Evidence from a pediatric vaccine.

Shortages and rationing are common in health care, yet we know little about the consequences. We examine an 18-month shortage of the pediatric Haemophilus Influenzae Type B (Hib) vaccine. Using insurance claims data and variation in shortage exposure across birth cohorts, we find that the shortage reduced uptake of high-value primary doses by 4 percentage points and low-value booster doses by 26 percentage points.

These recommendations are based on evidence from randomized controlled trials (RCTs) where researchers supported participants in adhering to diet recommendations. Real-life dilemmas that relate to dietary adherence including cost, food wastage, and practicality are not addressed and are the crux of where -evidence-based recommendations fail.

Background: Polymorphic ventricular tachycardia (PMVT) is a highly lethal arrhythmia which is commonly caused by acute myocardial ischaemia. PMVT mediated by short-coupled ventricular ectopy patients with ischaemic heart disease but in the absence of acute ischaemia may relate to transient peri-infarct Purkinje fibre irritability and has been termed 'Angry Purkinje Syndrome'.

Atmospheric aerosol over the North Atlantic Ocean impacts regional clouds and climate. In this work, we use a set of sun photometer observations of aerosol optical depth (AOD) located on the Graciosa and Cape Verde islands, along with the GEOS-Chem chemical transport model to investigate the sources of these aerosol and their transport over the North Atlantic Ocean. At both locations, the largest simulated contributor to aerosol extinction is the local source of sea-salt aerosol.

Global high-resolution emissions of soil NO, sea salt aerosols, and biogenic volatile organic compounds.

Natural emissions of air pollutants from the surface play major roles in air quality and climate change. In particular, nitrogen oxides (NO) emitted from soils contribute ~15% of global NO emissions, sea salt aerosols are a major player in the climate and chemistry of the marine atmosphere, and biogenic emissions are the dominant source of non-methane volatile organic compounds at the global scale. These natural emissions are often estimated using nonlinear parameterizations, which are sensitive to the horizontal resolutions of inputted meteorological and ancillary data.

Objective: We aim to determine whether pediatric urologists and pediatric radiologists can accurately estimate the timing of reflux by examining voiding cystourethrogram (VCUG) images without prior knowledge of the instilled contrast volume.

Improved method for the catheterization of the right ventricle in a rat model of pulmonary artery hypertension.

Ventricle catheterization in the rat is widely practiced in cardiopulmonary research. The catheters deployed are either fluid filled or solid tip pressure or pressure-volume catheters. The access to the right ventricle is through the right jugular vein, most commonly without direct visualization such as fluoroscopy.

Evidence of a developmental origin for β-cell heterogeneity using a dual lineage-tracing technology.

The Cre/loxP system has been used extensively in mouse models with a limitation of one lineage at a time. Differences in function and other properties among populations of adult β-cells is termed β-cell heterogeneity, which was recently associated with diabetic phenotypes. Optimal interference of the tibial component of the cementless Oxford Unicompartmental Knee Replacement.

Objectives: The primary stability of the cementless Oxford Unicompartmental Knee Replacement (OUKR) relies on interference fit (or press fit). Insufficient interference may cause implant loosening, whilst excessive interference could cause bone damage and fracture.The aim of this study was to identify the optimal interference fit by measuring the force required to seat the tibial component of the cementless OUKR (push-in force) and the force required to remove the component (pull-out force).

Causes and consequences of decreasing atmospheric organic aerosol in the United States.

Exposure to atmospheric particulate matter (PM) exacerbates respiratory and cardiovascular conditions and is a leading source of premature mortality globally. Organic aerosol contributes a significant fraction of PM in the United States. Here, using surface observations between 1990 and 2012, we show that organic carbon has declined dramatically across the entire United States by 25-50%; accounting for more than 30% of the US-wide decline in PM.
