Mitroaortic intervalvular fibrosa complications, such as tamponade, hemopericardium, and abscesses, are rare and often diagnosed postmortem. Infective endocarditis (IE) is an infection that affects the heart valves, endocardium, and great vessels. It has a mortality rate of approximately 30% per year, so early diagnosis is essential to reduce morbidity and mortality. Cardiac angio-CT triggered by electrocardiogram (ECG) has been considered in IE management guidelines in recent years, given its high spatial resolution, contributing to the diagnosis and evaluation of valvular complications (vegetations, perforations, dysfunctions), perivalvular (abscesses, pseudoaneurysms, prosthesis dehiscence, fistulas) and compromised coronary arteries (embolism), allowing early diagnosis and treatment.

Neural invasion is a prognostic hallmark of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC), yet the underlying mechanisms behind the disruption of perineural barriers and access of cancer cells into intrapancreatic nerves remain poorly understood. This study aimed to investigate the role of epithelial-mesenchymal transformation (EMT) in perineural epithelial cells during neural invasion.Histopathological analysis of human and murine primary tumors using perineurium-specific GLUT1 antibody revealed a reduction in perineural integrity, which positively correlated with the extent of neural invasion in human PDAC cases.

Peripheral arterial chemoreceptors monitor the levels of arterial blood gases and adjust ventilation and perfusion to meet metabolic demands. These chemoreceptors are present in all vertebrates studied to date but have not been described fully in reptiles other than turtles. Glycolysis and mitochondrial oxidative phosphorylation are the two major metabolic pathways for cellular ATP production. The metabolic plasticity displayed by cancer cells allows them to effectively shift between each of these pathways as a means of adapting to various growth conditions, thus ensuring their survival, proliferation and disease progression.
