Article Synopsis
  • * A total of 2,515 patients were examined, primarily with lung and renal cancer, revealing a one-year survival rate of 84.3% and low mortality and morbidity rates post-surgery.
  • * Findings indicate that while adrenalectomy is increasingly performed minimally invasively, factors like extra-adrenal metastases and incomplete surgery are linked to poorer survival outcomes, highlighting a need for future research on patient selection for this procedure.

Introduction: This study describes our experience implementing a connected prescription software (NetSIG, Terascop) for molecular pathology exams.

Material And Methods: NetSIG was set up for liquid biopsies and tissue testing. After registration and activation of regional pathology laboratories, NetSIG was implemented for external then internal prescriptions.

Anatomical modifications implemented during bariatric surgery not only result in weight loss, but also lead to metabolic corrections that translate into better glycemia stability and improvement in cardiovascular and liver disorders. The logical extension of surgical indications beyond mere reduction of the body mass index (BMI) (i.e.

Aims: Idylla epidermal growth factor receptor () is a fast and fully automated mutation assay that is easy to implement. However, under the Biocartis-recommended technical conditions, tissue sections are directly introduced into the cartridge, at the risk of exhausting the tumour sample. In this study, we evaluate the performance of Idylla on extracted DNA and discuss its place within the global non-small-cell lung cancer (NSCLC) screening strategy.

Cataract surgery has become the most frequent surgical procedure performed every year in Western countries. Perioperative patient circuit has to be adapted to the important medical needs and progress. Hence, a secure short circuit (SSC) for surgeries of the anterior segment of the eye under topical anaesthesia was created.

Article Synopsis
  • Immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs) targeting PD-1/PD-L1 are important for metastatic cancer treatment but can cause immune-related adverse events (irAEs), particularly affecting the eyes.
  • This study assessed patients from June 2014 to March 2018 who experienced moderate-to-severe ocular irAEs after anti-PD-(L)1 treatment, revealing a prevalence of 0.4% among 745 patients.
  • Results showed various ocular complications, with 62.5% of patients also having other irAEs; timely ophthalmologist consultation is recommended for patients experiencing eye issues during treatment.

Immune-related adverse events (IRAEs) are rare but serious adverse events that may be associated with inhibitors of few immune control points. The purpose here is to report the case of an inflammatory ocular disease, potentially linked to the immunity and use of nivolumab, a new immunological agent used for the treatment of a solid tumor. In spite of the involvement of this treatment in the onset of inflammation, we must always seek another cause.

New anticancer therapies, immune pathway inhibitors, may cause immune-related adverse events (IRAE). Immune-related ocular toxicities are rare but are potentially serious adverse events. The purpose of this article is to report a case of ocular inflammatory involvement potentially related to the immune response and the use of nivolumab, a new immunologic agent used for the treatment of a solid tumor.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to present the role of embolization in the treatment of kidney angiomyolipomas (AML), for preventive care or in case of bleeding.

Methods: From March 1995 to March 2007, 22 AML in 21 patients (16 women and five men, mean age 38 years) were embolized: five AML were treated for hemorrhagic shock emergency and 16 were preventive embolization. Eight AML were discovered incidentally and nine patients had pain or hematuria.

Congenital coronary artery fistula (CAF) is a rare disease. We report a case of a 58-year-old man having a complex coronary to pulmonary artery fistula associated with a large saccular aneurysm originated from the terminal portion of the right coronary artery. An endovascular approach was adopted in order to prevent aneurysmal rupture without need of complete closure of the fistula.

Laparoscopic mesh repair of ventral abdominal wall hernias is routinely performed. Mesh detachment and migration within the abdominal cavity is a late complication of this procedure. Symptoms are non-specific and imaging diagnosis is difficult to achieve because this complication is rare and overlooked.

Currently, multidetector row CT (MDCT) is routinely used for cardiac imaging, especially for detection of coronary artery disease and morphological and functional evaluation. Recent advances in MDCT with cardiac gating and improved spatial and temporal resolution allow non-invasive evaluation of cardiac valves with significant reduction in artifacts traditionally associated with valvular prostheses. Postsurgical follow-up of mechanical aortic valvular prostheses requires knowledge of the functioning mechanism of different valve types and related complications, some potentially lethal and sometimes of insidious onset.

Materials And Methods: Thirty-one patients underwent stent placement between June 1998 and October 2006 for superior vena cava obstruction. The initial effectiveness of the metallic stent therapy and the follow-up results were studied at one, six and 12 months.

Purpose: We retrospectively studied the utility of metallic stent placement for the treatment of malignant superior vena cava obstruction in 31 patients (SVCO) on the basis of long-term follow-up data.

Thirty-three consecutive patients with aortic stenosis underwent a 16-row spiral CT scan. Aortic valve planimetry was performed using two methods: double-oblique reformation (DO) and 2D-curved multiplanar reconstruction using advanced vessel analysis software (VA). The mean aortic valve area determined by transthoracic echocardiography was 0.

Fluid flow within cortical bone tissue is modeled through an upscaling approach of a local description of the fluid movement. At the pore scale, the coupled phenomena (Poiseuille effect, osmosis, and electro-osmosis) governing the interstitial fluid movement are considered. Thus, actions of electro-osmotic and osmotic motions, in addition to the classical Poiseuille flow, are studied at the canaliculus scale by deriving a coupled Darcy law.

Bone remodelling is the process that maintains bone structure and strength through adaptation of bone tissue mechanical properties to applied loads. Bone can be modelled as a porous deformable material whose pores are filled with cells, organic material and interstitial fluid. Fluid flow is believed to play a role in the mechanotransduction of signals for bone remodelling.
