Is There an Association Between Magnetic Resonance Imaging and Neurological Signs in Patients With Vertebral Osteomyelitis?: A Retrospective Observational Study on 121 Patients.

Neurological complications can occur in up to 51% of vertebral osteomyelitis (VO) in surgical series. The aim of our study was to estimate the frequency of neurological signs in a nonselected population of patients with VO and to assess clinical and MRI changes associated with these complications.We reviewed medical charts of patients with VO from 2007 to 2014 in our University Hospital and their MRIs were analyzed by a radiologist blinded from clinical data.

Reliability of a new hip lateral view to quantify alpha angle in femoroacetabular impingement.

Background: Radiographic measurement of the alpha angle (AA) in femoroacetabular impingement (FAI) is not well codified and invasive techniques such as MR- or CT-arthrography remain the gold standard. Excessive acetabular coverage described in pincer-type FAI can be seen on plain radiographs but has never been quantified and anterior center edge (ACE) angle, described on the false-profile view (FP) to measure anterior acetabular coverage has never been evaluated in FAI.

Hypothesis: In this study we wanted to determine if a plain radiograph could efficiently measure AA compared to CT-arthrography and if ACE could quantify the acetabular coverage in FAI.

Vertebral osteomyelitis: an unusual presentation of Bartonella henselae infection.

Objectives: To report cases of cat scratch disease with vertebral osteomyelitis.

Methods: We describe clinical features, diagnostic, treatment, and outcome of 2 patients with vertebral osteomyelitis due to Bartonella henselae and provide a review of the relevant literature.

Results: A 47-year-old man was investigated for fever, splenomegaly, and cervical adenopathy.

Sciatic nerve compression related to ossification of the sacrospinous ligament secondary to pelvic balance abnomalities.

The authors report an isolated case of right sacrospinous ligament ossification causing sciatic pain because of compression of the proximal sciatic nerve. The initial conservative treatment of injections in the conflict zone and the intervertebral joints was insufficient. Surgical exploration was undertaken via a posterior approach, demonstrating the conflict between the nerve and the ossified ligament.

A case of osteitis due to Staphylococcus aureus and Arcanobacterium bernardiae coinfection.

Arcanobacterium bernardiae human infections remain rare. Only 2 reports are described in the literature. We report on an immunocompetent patient with a long history of chronic osteitis who developed a polymicrobial infection of the knee.

Cervical spondylitis due to Neisseria meningitidis.

The diverse clinical spectrum of meningococcal infections includes frequent clinical forms, such as meningitis or septicemia, and uncommon manifestations, such as septic arthritis. Neisseria meningitidis is not generally considered to be a causative agent of osteoarticular infections. We report the first case of acute primary cervical spondylitis in a 48-year-old man.

Atlantoaxial rotatory subluxation with ankylosis in an 11-year-old girl: a case report.

Study Design: Report of an 11-year-old girl with a left atlantoaxial rotatory subluxation and ankylosis found 20 months after she sustained a cervical injury.

Objective: To describe the radiographic characteristics of this rare deformity assessed with a combination of spiral CT scan with multiplanar three-dimensional reformations and functional CT scan.

Summary Of Background Data: Atlantoaxial rotatory subluxation is a well-known condition, but its association with lateral C1-C2 ankylosis has not been reported to our knowledge.

[Small bowel diverticulitis: the role of CT].

The authors report a case of acute Meckel's diverticulitis diagnosed by CT in a 38 year old patient. The authors describe the value of CT for diagnosis and evaluation of disease extent in a patient presenting with non specific symptoms.

[Malignant obstructive jaundice: the role of percutaneous metallic stents].

Objectives: Efficiency evaluation of percutaneous metallic stents in palliative treatment of malignant biliary obstruction.

Methods: One hundred sixteen percutaneous metallic stents were implanted in 80 patients with malignant biliary obstruction. Thirty-five patients had hilar obstruction, 32 patients obstruction of the common bile duct and 12 patients obstruction of a bilioenteric anastomosis.
