Multivoxel (1)H MR Spectroscopic Approach to the Diagnosis of Intraventricular Central Neurocytoma. A Case Report.

We describe the proton ((1)H) magnetic resonance spectroscopic (MRS) imaging of central neurocytoma (CNC), a rare benign intraventricular neuronal tumor. Multivoxel MR Spectroscopy is a feasible and reproducible non-invasive tool for the specific diagnosis of CNC and to distinguish CNC from other intraventricular tumor types. The detection of glycine and alanine peaks, high choline and lactate and low NAA levels are characteristic of CNC.

Hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) is a chronic dermatologic disorder characterised by multiple vesiculopustular cutaneous lesions in skin. It sometimes express autosomal dominant mode of inheritance. In some patients, it can give rise to squamous cell carcinoma of skin.

Methylation-mediated repression of GADD45alpha in prostate cancer and its role as a potential therapeutic target.

Defects in apoptotic pathway contribute to uncontrolled proliferation of cancer cells and confer resistance to chemotherapy. Growth arrest and DNA damage inducible, alpha (GADD45alpha) is up-regulated on docetaxel treatment and may contribute to docetaxel-mediated cytotoxicity. We examined the mechanism of regulation of GADD45alpha in prostate cancer cells and the effect of its up-regulation on sensitivity to docetaxel chemotherapy.

Waist circumference measurement by site, posture, respiratory phase, and meal time: implications for methodology.

Waist circumference (WC) has been advocated as a simple, reliable, and cost-effective measure to understand an individual's cardio-metabolic risk. Although several protocols exist for measuring WC, the variation induced by a few factors has not been investigated. We compared several established and experimental WC measurement protocols to identify factors that may cause variations in WC measurement.

Imaging of desmoplastic infantile ganglioglioma: a spectroscopic viewpoint.

Purpose: Desmoplastic infantile gangliogliomas (DIG) are rare benign intracranial neoplasms of early childhood with involvement of superficial cerebral cortex and leptomeninges. The purpose of the study was to determine the alterations in metabolite ratios occurring in the neoplasm and combine with magnetic resonance (MR) imaging features to narrow down the diagnosis.

Methods: MR imaging sequences include T1- and T2-weighted sequences, fluid-attenuated inversion recovery sequences, and post-gadolinium-contrast T1-weighted imaging.

Magnetic Resonance Imaging of a Benign Phyllodes Tumor of the Breast.

SUMMARY: BACKGROUND: The aim of this study was to evaluate a phyllodes tumor of the breast with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and magnetic resonance spectroscopy. METHODS: MRI of the breasts was performed using a phased array double breast coil with spectroscopic capability on a 1.5T MR scanner.

MR and CT Evaluation of Dysembryoplastic Neuroepithelial Tumor. A Case Report.

A 33-year-old man presented with a long history of intractable partial seizures with the first episode at the age of 18 years. The seizure frequency had increased in the recent past. CT imaging revealed a low attenuation lesion in the left frontal cortex with calvarial scalloping.

Guillain-Barré Syndrome presenting with bilateral facial nerve paralysis: a case report.

Bilateral paralysis of the facial nerve is a relatively rare presentation and often indicates a serious underlying medical condition. Guillain-Barré syndrome needs to be considered, among others in the differential diagnoses of such presentation. We present here the case of a 35 year old female who presented with bilateral facial nerve paralysis due to the Guillain-Barré syndrome.

The influence of obesity on pulmonary rehabilitation outcomes in patients with COPD.

Although obesity is increasing in prevalence, relatively little attention has been given to its impact on outcomes in patients with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) completing pulmonary rehabilitation. We conducted a retrospective chart review of 114 patients with COPD who completed outpatient pulmonary rehabilitation at our center. Body habitus categories were determined based on body mass index (BMI).

1n and 2n transfer with the Borromean nucleus 6He near the Coulomb barrier.

Angular distributions for 1n and 2n transfer are reported for the 6He+65Cu system at E_{lab}=22.6 MeV. For the first time, triple coincidences between alpha particles, neutrons, and characteristic gamma rays from the targetlike residues were used to separate the contributions arising from 1n and 2n transfer.

Primary Adenoid Cystic Carcinoma Presenting as an Orbital Apex Tumor.

Primary adenoid cystic carcinoma occurring in the orbital apex is rare. We present the clinical features of a patient who initially presented with the clinical and radiologic features of an orbital pseudotumor. He developed features of orbital apex syndrome and repeat imaging showed a tumor of the orbital apex with intracranial invasion.

Malignant myoepithelioma of the parapharyngeal space - a case report.

Malignant myoepithelioma (MM) of parapharyngeal space provide both a diagnostic and therapeutic challenge. Malignant myoepitheliomas are rare tumour of salivary glands. Most occur in the parotid gland, few other sites of origin are described.

Evaluation of UASB reactor performance during start-up operation using synthetic mixed-acid waste.

A start-up experiment was performed in a laboratory-scale, upflow anaerobic sludge blanket (UASB) reactor using seed sludge from a domestic waste treatment plant at 3.8-33.3gCODl(-1)day(-1) loading rates.

Pachymeningeal metastasis from squamous cell carcinoma of the uterine cervix with involvement of the optic nerve: case report and review of the literature.

This report describes the case of a 50-year-old woman with carcinomatous meningitis from squamous cell carcinoma of the uterine cervix. Ultrasound showed an irregular hypoechoic mass in the cervix. Contrast enhanced computed tomography imaging revealed intense linear enhancement along the falx cerebri suggestive of pachymeningeal metastasis with involvement of the optic nerve.

Longitudinal CT and MR appearances of hemimegalencephaly in a patient with tuberous sclerosis.

Case Report: A 3-day-old baby was referred to our institution with seizures since birth and a presumptive diagnosis of cerebral tumor detected by prenatal ultrasound. Computed tomography (CT) and Magnetic Resonance (MR) imaging performed immediately after birth revealed the presence of an enhancing mass in the left cerebral hemisphere.

Discussion: The possibility of a congenital malignant brain tumor was considered.

Impact of a comprehensive telephone-based disease management programme on quality-of-life in patients with heart failure.

Background: Disease management programmes for patients with heart failure have improving the quality-of-life (QOL) of patients with heart failure.

Methods: Patients attending the heart failure clinic were randomized into 2 groups of 25 patients each. The control group was managed in the heart failure clinic and the intervention group underwent the following additional interventions: (i) interactive sessions with the patient and spouse informing them about the disease, drugs, and self-management of fluid intake and diuretic dose; (ii) a telephonic helpline was established and regular telephone calls made to reinforce the information and modify drug dosages.

The emerging role of epigenetics in urological cancers.

DNA methylation and histone modifications constitute the common epigenetic modifications in vertebrate genomes. The epigenetic changes are early event in the cancer development and are reversible. Over the last decade, the field of epigenetics has made considerable progress both in the diagnosis and treatment of variety of malignancies.

Molecular interactions in alcohol-ethyl methacrylate mixtures.

Molecular interaction between alcohols (1-propanol, 1-butanol, s-butanol, t-butanol, 1-pentanol, 1-heptanol, 1-octanol and 1-decanol) with ethyl methacrylate has been studied in n-heptane, CCl(4) and benzene at 298K using FTIR spectroscopic and dielectric methods. The result obtained from both the methods indicates only the existence of most likely 1:1 complex formation between the alcohol and ethyl methacrylate in these systems. The alkyl chain length of alcohol and the solvent used play a significant role in the strength of hydrogen bond (O-H:O=C) determined on the basis of spectral and dielectric parameters.
