Genetic markers of the Y chromosome are powerful tools for investigating paternal ancestry and are widely used in population and forensic genetics. However, in order to obtain statistics with a higher degree of certainty using these markers, it is necessary to obtain haplotypic frequencies from a representative database, as well as knowing the diversity and structure of the population. The aim of this study was to investigate the genetic diversity of a sample of 1114 unrelated men from three states in the Northeast of Brazil: Paraíba, Pernambuco and Ceará, through the analysis of 23 Y-STRs and to contribute to the expansion of the Brazilian database on these markers.

Unfortunately, wild species germplasm bank databases, often maintained by resource-limited botanical gardens, are highly disparate and capture information about their collections in a wide range of underlying data formats, storage platforms, following different standards, and with varying degrees of data accessibility. Thus, it is extremely difficult to build conservation strategies for wild species via integrating data from these GBs.

Over time, equipment wears out; however, with well-conducted and guided maintenance, this degradation can be controlled, and failed equipment can be restored to operational status. Preventive maintenance allows this concept to be applied, given the great advantages for large companies in reusing equipment and machinery, always putting the worker's health and safety first.

Furthermore, this delivery strategy can be combined with the sustained release of nanoparticles to enhance the therapeutic potential in a wide variety of pathological scenarios. Among the different types of nanoparticles that can be included in microneedle formulations, mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSN) of tunable pore sizes constitute a promising tool as drug delivery systems for cargos of a wide range of molecular weights.

Medical digital twins consist of computational models that represent the health state of individual patients over time, enabling optimal therapeutics and forecasting patient prognosis. Many health conditions involve the immune system, so it is crucial to include its key features when designing medical digital twins.

The diamondback moth (DBM), is the main pest of Brassicas crops worldwide, and its recorded resistance to 101 active ingredients indicates it is difficult to control. The purpose of this study was to investigate the hypothesis that has fitness costs associated with its resistance to lufenuron, a chitin-synthesis inhibitor insecticide. Thus, concentration-mortality bioassays were performed for susceptible (REC-S), resistant (BZR-R) populations, their progenies F1 and F1', and one established population without selection pressure (BZR-Rns) after four generations.

Among them, Choreoacanthocytosis and McLeod syndrome stand out, sharing similarities with Huntington's disease, including choreic movement disorders, psychiatric symptoms, and cognitive decline. The case described involves a 36-year-old patient with cognitive deficits, involuntary movements, and ataxic gait.

The identification of fish species and their physical and chemical characterization play a crucial role in the fishing industry, fish-food research and the management of marine resources. Traditional methods for species identification, such as expert observation, DNA barcoding and meta-barcoding, though effective, require labor-intensive laboratory work. Consequently, there is a pressing need for more objective and efficient methodologies for accurate fish species identification and characterization.

Here, this is introduced by the surface-assisted synthesis of two carbaporphyrinoid-based polymers of increasing dimensionality under ultrahigh-vacuum conditions. The structural and electronic characterization of the resulting polymers has been performed by scanning tunneling and non-contact atomic force microscopies, complemented by theoretical modeling.

The absence of Hg biomagnification in a certain aquatic environment constitutes an exceptional finding and this seems to be the case for Sepetiba Bay, in Rio de Janeiro state (RJ), Brazil. There are three distinct ecological populations of Guiana dolphins in the Sepetiba Bay (SB)-Ilha Grande Bay (IGB) Complex, inhabiting: (1) the inner part of SB; (2) SB entrance; and (3) IGB.

Introduction And Objectives: To analyze the clinical impact of the inappropriate use of antithrombotic treatment in patients with high ischemic or hemorrhagic risk during the periprocedural/perisurgical period in Spain.
Methods: Prospective multicenter observational registry of patients receiving antiplatelet and/or anticoagulant therapy who required an intervention. The incidence of 30-day events was compared based on the peri-intervention management of antithrombotic treatment and the patients' risk classification (high vs.
Acetylene/polyynes -(C≡C-) and cumulenes =(C=) are connectors widely used for the realization of one-dimensional (1D) π-conjugates. Although both π-moieties are constituted by sp carbon atoms, their different bond connectivity confers distinct physicochemical properties to the resulting systems. In this context, while many acetylene/polyyne- and cumulene-based derivatives have been prepared and studied, no reports have tackled the possibility to reversibly alter the acetylene/polyyne-cumulene electronic character of these derivatives using mild conditions.

Cancer is the second leading cause of death worldwide. >90 % of cancer-related deaths are due to metastasis, a process that depends on the ability of cancer cells to leave the primary tumor, migrate, and colonize different tissues. Inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate receptor (IPR)-mediated Ca signaling plays an essential role in maintaining the homeostasis of cancer cells and the sustained proliferation.
