Article Synopsis
  • Prime-2-CoV_Beta is a new COVID-19 vaccine candidate that uses an Orf virus to express the nucleocapsid and spike proteins from SARS-CoV-2, specifically the Beta strain.
  • In Phase I clinical trials, the vaccine was found to be safe and able to generate immune responses, but further studies were needed due to the evolving variants, particularly Omicron.
  • Research in mice and hamsters showed that while Prime-2-CoV_Beta elicited strong immune responses in unvaccinated animals, it did not significantly boost immunity in already immunized subjects and demonstrated similar protection levels between different immunization strategies.

Background: Dementia is a common and progressive condition whose prevalence is growing worldwide. It is challenging for healthcare systems to provide continuity in clinical services for all patients from diagnosis to death.

Aims: To test whether individuals who are most likely to need enhanced care later in the disease course can be identified at the point of diagnosis, thus allowing the targeted intervention.

The hnRNP C proteins are among the most abundant and avid pre-mRNA-binding proteins and they contain a consensus sequence RNA-binding domain (RBD) that is found in a large number of RNA-binding proteins. The interaction of the RBD of the hnRNP C proteins with an RNA oligonucleotide [r(U)8] was monitored by nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR). 15N and 13C/15N-labelled hnRNP C protein RBD was mixed with r(U)8 and one- and two-dimensional (1D and 2D) NMR spectra were recorded in a titration experiment.
