Objective: To investigate the diagnostic value of immunoglobulin E (IgE), fractional of exhaled nitric oxide (FeNO), and peripheral blood eosinophils (EOS) in adult bronchial asthma and to analyze their relationship with asthma severity.
Methods: A retrospective analysis was conducted on 336 patients diagnosed with bronchial asthma and admitted to Xi'an Fourth Hospital from January 2022 to January 2024, forming the asthma group. Additionally, another 127 healthy subjects were selected as the non-asthmatic control group.
Background: Identification of genetic alleles associated with both Alzheimer's disease (AD) and concussion severity/recovery could help explain the association between concussion and elevated dementia risk. However, there has been little investigation into whether AD risk genes associate with concussion severity/recovery, and the limited findings are mixed.
Objective: We used AD polygenic risk scores (PRS) and APOE genotypes to investigate any such associations in the NCAA-DoD Grand Alliance CARE Consortium (CARE) dataset.
In this work, a specially designed multilayer indium tin oxide (ITO) mesh structure metasurface was proposed as a microwave absorber, achieving both excellent angle-insensitive broadband absorption and high shielding effectiveness (SE). It features gradually changing surface resistance ( ), to expand the absorption bandwidth while maintaining high SE. Also, a folded square ring metasurface was designed to effectively suppress surface wave grating lobes, as well as to reduce the unit size of the metasurface and thus the absorber.

Objective: This study aims to employ machine learning algorithms to identify key indicators from the 20-item Modified Checklist for Autism in Toddlers, revised (M-CHAT-R) combining with ASD-related sociodemographic and environmental factors, to distinguish ASD from typically developing children.
Methods: Data from our prior validation study of the Chinese M-CHAT-R (August 2016-March 2017, n = 6,049 toddlers) were reviewed.
Early therapeutic intervention in high-risk smoldering multiple myeloma (HR-SMM) has shown benefits, however, no studies have assessed whether biochemical progression or response depth predicts long-term outcomes. The single-arm I-PRISM phase II trial (NCT02916771) evaluated ixazomib, lenalidomide, and dexamethasone in 55 patients with HR-SMM. The primary endpoint, median progression-free survival (PFS), was not reached (NR) (95% CI: 57.

This study aimed to assess the incidence, severity, and regression of the post-irradiation SMD among patients with NPC treated with proton therapy.
Methods: NPC patients treated with proton therapy were retrospectively enrolled.
Aim: Investigate associations between religion and spirituality (R&S) and DNA methylation of four HPA-axis genes (i.e. 14 CpG sites) among 992 adults from the Hispanic Community Health Study/Study of Latinos cohorts.

Aim: To quantify the severity and frequency of ocular pain in Tibetan plateau patients with dry eye, and to evaluate the related factors affecting ocular pain.
Methods: A retrospective study included 160 cases of dry eye disease (DED) patients who were treated from July 2022 to June 2023. Age, gender, occupation, illness course, anxiety, plateau duration, plateau protection, ocular surface disease index scale (OSDI), break-up time (BUT), Schirmer I test (SIT), conjunctivitis, history of ophthalmic medication, autoimmune disease, the workload of daily near vision range, smoking and overnight stay were obtained comprehensive ophthalmic assessment, and their duration was followed up.

Purpose: We conducted a prospective, real-world study to evaluate the efficacy and safety of balanced propofol sedation (BPS) in bronchoscopy and identify an advantageous sedation regimen for such procedures.
Patients And Methods: The participants were placed in four groups based on their sedation regimen (exposure factor): the M-S group (midazolam + sufentanil for traditional sedation), R-S group (remimazolam + sufentanil for traditional sedation), M-S-P group (midazolam + sufentanil + propofol for BPS), and R-S-P group (remimazolam + sufentanil + propofol for BPS). The primary outcomes included satisfaction metrics (satisfaction of the patients, endoscopic physicians, and nurses) and follow-up questionnaires.
Background: Previous studies have suggested that neighborhoods characterized by higher walkability are related to a reduced risk of ischemic heart disease (IHD), whereas exposure to PM is positively associated with risk of IHD. Nevertheless, their joint impact on IHD warrants further investigation.
Methods: This prospective cohort study was performed in Yinzhou, Ningbo, China, comprising 47,516 participants.
Background: Micturition desire-awakening (MDA) function plays a pivotal role in the development of primary nocturnal enuresis (PNE); however, its neural correlates remain largely unexplored. Consequently, this study aimed to identify specific brain regional activities associated with MDA function.
Methods: Neuroimaging data were collected from 173 children with varying MDA functional grade scores at the Department of Developmental and Behavioral Pediatrics, Shanghai Children's Medical Center, from July 2018 to November 2022.
The use of adeno-associated viruses (AAVs) as donors for homology-directed repair (HDR)-mediated genome engineering is limited by safety issues, manufacturing constraints and restricted packaging limits. Non-viral targeted genetic knock-ins rely primarily on double-stranded DNA (dsDNA) and linear single-stranded DNA (lssDNA) donors. dsDNA is known to have low efficiency and high cytotoxicity, while lssDNA is challenging for scaled manufacture.

Antigens drive the proliferation of infected cells, precluding latent reservoir decay. However, the relationship between antigen recognition and HIV-1 gene expression is poorly understood because most studies of latency reversal use agents that induce non-specific global T cell activation.

Calcium ions are crucial in numerous physiological processes, and their precise measurement is important for many clinical diagnostics and therapeutic interventions. Traditional detection methods, such as atomic absorption spectroscopy, cannot meet clinical requirements, as they measure total calcium instead of the clinically relevant ionized form (Ca). Ion-selective electrodes (ISEs) provide a convenient, accurate, and specific method for Ca determination.
View Article and Find Full Text PDFOptical differential operation is an ultra-fast edge information extraction technology that enables identifying the image features, whereas current optical differentiators mainly operate along one or two differential orientations and is incompetent for switching the differential orientation. A reflection-type orientation-switchable optical differentiator is proposed and the BK7-MoS interface is used as an example to analyze the edge detection performance. Theory suggests that there are dual modulation methods, one is tuning the incident polarization angle with a Brewster incident angle, and the other one is altering the incident angle with a nearly vertical incident polarization angle.

Background: Thyroid dysfunction is more common in other endocrine disorders such as diabetes mellitus (DM). Carcinoembryonic antigen (CEA), a common tumor biomarker, is found elevated in patients with thyroid dysfunction. However, the relationship between thyroid hormone levels and CEA levels remains unclear.

However, it remains unknown how seizures spread through the ANT relative to other thalamic nuclei. This study aimed to investigate, through simultaneous recordings from both ANT and pulvinar (PLV) nucleus, their roles in seizure propagation.

However, there is a paucity of direct evidence which demonstrates the association between intestinal barrier damage and frailty in people living with HIV (PLWH).
Methods: The present study is a retrospective case control study.
Western flower thrips, , is a serious worldwide pest of agriculture and horticulture, and its contact pheromone is 7-methyltricosane. Two enantiomers of 7-methyltricosane were synthesized for the first time. The centra of our strategy were chiral auxiliaries to introduce stereocenter, and Wittig coupling to connect two blocks.
