Friedreich's ataxia (FRDA) is an autosomal-recessive disorder primarily attributed to biallelic GAA repeat expansions that reduce expression of the mitochondrial protein frataxin (FXN). FRDA is characterized by progressive neurodegeneration, with many patients developing cardiomyopathy that progresses to heart failure and death. The potential to reverse or prevent progression of the cardiac phenotype of FRDA was investigated in a mouse model of FRDA, using an adeno-associated viral vector (AAV8) containing the coding sequence of the gene.

Evidence is scarce to guide the use of nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) to mitigate severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) vaccine-related adverse effects, given the possibility of blunting the desired immune response. In this pilot study, we deeply phenotyped a small number of volunteers who did or did not take NSAIDs concomitant with SARS-CoV-2 immunizations to seek initial information on the immune response. A SARS-CoV-2 vaccine-specific receptor binding domain (RBD) IgG antibody response and efficacy in the evoked neutralization titers were evident irrespective of concomitant NSAID consumption.

Xia-Gibbs syndrome (XGS; MIM: 615829) is a phenotypically heterogeneous neurodevelopmental disorder (NDD) caused by newly arising mutations in the AT-Hook DNA-Binding Motif-Containing 1 () gene that are predicted to lead to truncated AHDC1 protein synthesis. More than 270 individuals have been diagnosed with XGS worldwide. Despite the absence of an independent assay for AHDC1 protein function to corroborate potential functional consequences of rare variant genetic findings, there are also reports of individuals with XGS-like trait manifestations who have missense mutations and who have been provided a molecular diagnosis of the disorder.

Purpose: An experimental and mathematical study for determining the effective point of measurement ( ) for a Farmer-type cylindrical chamber in a carbon ion passive scatter beam is presented.

Methods: The ionization depth curves measured by the Bragg peak chamber were plotted according to the position of the inner surface of the entrance window, while the Farmer chamber was plotted at the tip of the cylindrical geometric center. The ionization depth curves measured by a cylindrical chamber in the 3D water phantom were then compared with a high-precision parallel-plate PTW Bragg peak chamber for inspecting the upstream shift correction of the cylindrical chamber in the carbon ion beam.

Digital pathology has shown great importance for diagnostic purposes in the digital age by integrating basic image features into multi-modality information. We quantify the degree of correlation between the multiple texture features from H&E images and polarization parameter sets derived from Mueller matrix images of the same sample to provide more microstructural information for assisting diagnosis. The experimental result shows the correlations between texture feature and polarization parameter via Pearson coefficients.

Incorporating a Bessel focus module into a two-photon fluorescence mesoscope, we achieved rapid volumetric imaging of neural activity over the mesoscale with synaptic resolution. Objective- FMO (flavin-containing monooxygenase) 3 converts bacterial-derived trimethylamine to trimethylamine N-oxide (TMAO), an independent risk factor for cardiovascular disease. We generated FMO3 knockout (FMO3KO) mouse to study its effects on plasma TMAO, lipids, glucose/insulin metabolism, thrombosis, and atherosclerosis. Approach and Results- Previous studies with an antisense oligonucleotide (ASO) knockdown strategy targeting FMO3 in LDLRKO (low-density lipoprotein receptor knockout) mice resulted in major reductions in TMAO levels and atherosclerosis, but also showed effects on plasma lipids, insulin, and glucose.
