Biodegradation of pollutants is a sustainable and cost-effective solution to groundwater pollution. Here, we investigate microbial populations involved in biodegradation of poly-contaminants in a pipeline for heavily contaminated groundwater. Groundwater moves from a polluted park to a treatment plant, where an aerated bioreactor effectively removes the contaminants.

We report three families with arterial aneurysms and dissections in which variants predicted to be pathogenic were identified in SMAD2. Moreover, one variant occurred de novo in a proband with unaffected parents. SMAD2 is a strong candidate gene for arterial aneurysms and dissections given its role in the TGF-β signaling pathway.

Mycobacterium heckeshornense is a rare isolate in clinical specimens. We performed simultaneous 16S rRNA sequence analysis of a mycobacterium culture and a histopathology specimen to determine the relevance of M. heckeshornense infection in an immunocompetent patient initially presenting with pneumothorax.

A 31-yr-old Chinese female, a nonsmoker, presented with digital clubbing and coughing. Diagnostic evaluation revealed a pulmonary sequestration in the left lower lobe. During surgery a tumour was discovered, which turned out to be a lymphoepithelioma-like carcinoma.
