[Erythrocyte lipid peroxidation as a diagnostic test in supplying pigs, lambs and chickens with vitamin E].

Experiments with pigs, lambs, sheep, and birds, carried out under various conditions of feeding (with or without supplement or treatment with vitamin E) revealed that the study of the peroxide resistance of erythrocyte lipids could render useful information on the supply of animals with vitamin E. The study of peroxide resistance was shown to be much more accessible than the available chemical methods, and had better reproducibility. This new approach took good consideration of the biologic activity of vitamin E, and was fairly suitable to be employed as a screening diagnostic method.

[Use of a broth made of the subepidermal layer of pig skin as feed].

Studied was a broth received from the T. Dokov leather factory in Etropole, prepared of swine skin subepidermal layer (BSSS). As many as 28 samples of BSSS were studied with regard to crude protein, crude fats, and aldehyde and peroxide numbers.

Studies were carried out on the hatchability and broiler-bird viability in dependence on meeting the needs of parental birds of vitamins A and E. The experiments were carried out under productive conditions with material taken from four poultry farms. The forage mixtures intended for parental birds were sampled with regard to studying the content of carotene, vitamins A and E, fats, aldehydes, protein calcium, and phosphorus.
