Snow composition depends on the long-range transport of pollutants. This article examines aspects of snow composition in the town of Nadym in Western Siberia. During fieldwork conducted in 2021 and 2022, we determined dust load, concentrations and ratio of dissolved and suspended forms of metals and metalloids (MMs).

The city of Nizhnevartovsk is one of the centers of oil production in Western Siberia (Russia). A survey of the contents of trace metals and metalloids (TMMs) and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) in the snow cover was conducted there. This study investigates the elemental composition, organic carbon content, pH values, and particle size characteristics in 50 road dust samples collected from Tyumen, a large city in Western Siberia (Russia). The content of 62 major and trace elements was studied using atomic emission spectrometry (ICP-AES) и inductively coupled plasma spectrometry (ICP-MS). It was revealed that the dust has an alkaline reaction pH = 7.

In order to evaluate the level of atmospheric pollution in the north of Western Siberia, we studied the composition of urban snow in the vicinity of the Tazovsky settlement as well as in the area of Zapolyarnoye-the largest natural gas field in Russia in terms of a total extraction volume. Our results indicate that anthropogenic activities have caused an increase in electric conductivity and pH values of meltwaters. Concentrations of dissolved and particulate forms of trace elements (Fe, Mn, Ni, Cr, Cu, Pb, Zn, and Cd) were determined using atomic absorption spectroscopy.
