Review on synthesis of lactic acid and lactates from biomass derived carbohydrates via heterogeneous catalysis.

The utilization of renewable lignocellulosic biomass resources is a promising solution to deal with the deficit of fossil resources and the associated environmental concerns. Among diverse biomass-derived products, lactic acid (LA) stands out as one of the most successful commodities and also a platform to connect raw biomass feedstocks with value-added chemicals and degradable polymers. Herein, we critically review the recent advances in the design and development of base, acid, and multifunctional catalytic systems for the conversion of different carbohydrates to LA and alkyl lactates via chemical routes.

Chiral effects at the metal center in Fe(III) spin crossover coordination salts.

Evidence of chirality was observed at the Fe metal center in Fe(III) spin crossover coordination salts [Fe(qsal)Ni(dmit)] and [Fe(qsal)(TCNQ)] from X-ray absorption spectroscopy at the Fe 2pcore threshold. Based on the circularly polarized X-ray absorption data, the X-ray natural circular dichroism seen [Fe(qsal)Ni(dmit)] and [Fe(qsal)(TCNQ)] is far stronger than seen for [Fe(qsal)Cl] suggesting this natural circular dichroism signature is a ligand effect rather than a result of just a loss of octahedral symmetry on the Fe core. The larger the chiral effects in the Fe 2p core to bound X-ray absorption, the greater the perturbation of the Fe 2pto 2pspin-orbit splitting seen in the X-ray absorption spectra.

Robust and interpretable deep learning system for prognostic stratification of extranodal natural killer/T-cell lymphoma.

Purpose: Extranodal natural killer/T-cell lymphoma (ENKTCL) is an hematologic malignancy with prognostic heterogeneity. We aimed to develop and validate DeepENKTCL, an interpretable deep learning prediction system for prognosis risk stratification in ENKTCL.

Methods: A total of 562 patients from four centers were divided into the training cohort, validation cohort and test cohort.
