Spirometric reference equations and lung function testing in adults from Southwestern Tanzania.

Background: The increasing relevance of lung function testing in diagnosing and treating pulmonary diseases globally requires adequate spirometric reference equations. However, locally derived reference standards from African countries are widely missing.

Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted in Southwestern Tanzania.

Out of pocket health-care services in Germany during pregnancy under consideration of migration and acculturation.

Purpose: More than a quarter of the German population has a migration background (MB). As various studies in the healthcare sector have already shown, ethnic background and migration status can have an influence on individual patient care. The aim of our study was to evaluate whether there are differences in utilization of out of pocket health-care services and the consultation situation in the context of prenatal care, taking into account migration status, acculturation and socio-demographic aspects.

Pregnancy after advanced ovarian cancer with spontaneous uterine rupture in second trimester: A case report and review of the literature.

Fertility-preserving surgery (FPS) in advanced ovarian cancer (AOC) is extremely rare and consequently, information about the pregnancies of these patients is anecdotal. Therefore, management of the pregnancy after AOC is challenging, especially if an unexpected situation arises. A 31-year-old nulliparous woman was admitted to our tertiary hospital in the 18th week of twin pregnancy with sudden severe abdominal pain.

Serological Evidence of Zika Virus Infections in Sudan.

Little is known about the frequency of Zika virus (ZIKV) infections in Sudan. The aim of this study was to obtain data on the prevalence of ZIKV infections and the immunity of the population in the country. To this end, 198 sera obtained between December 2012 and January 2013 in different regions in Sudan were examined for neutralizing antibodies against ZIKV, dengue virus (DENV), and yellow fever virus (YFV).

Novel Occupational Therapy Program (Step Up) to Facilitate the Transition from Early Intervention in Psychosis Services.

The purpose of this program evaluation was to examine preliminary outcomes associated with a novel stepdown program for clients of early intervention in psychosis services ("Step Up") that featured occupational therapy (OT) as a critical treatment component. Clients participated in Step Up for at least 6 months and were administered pre-post assessments of clinician-rated performance of daily living activities and self-perceived performance and satisfaction with daily occupational functioning. Paired samples Wilcoxon tests were used to compare outcomes across the two time points.
