The second paper in this series of two aims to cover the clinical and laboratory stages of immediate denture construction. It looks at the clinical techniques that can be used to facilitate the accurate construction of immediate dentures, as well as some of the problems that can compromise their final outcome.

Mandibular two implant-supported overdentures as the first choice standard of care for edentulous patients--the York Consensus Statement.

The Annual Conference of the BSSPD (British Society for the Study of Prosthetic Dentistry) was held in York on 6 and 7 April 2009. At the symposium on mandibular overdentures, presenters offered a synopsis of the research available on the efficacy of implant-supported mandibular overdentures in the edentulous mandible. Emphasis was given to both qualitative and quantitative research based on patient-centred outcomes of treatment.

Prosthetic treatment time and satisfaction of edentulous patients treated with conventional or implant-stabilized complete mandibular dentures: a case-control study (part 2).

Purpose: The aim of this study was to compare, prospectively, treatment with implant-retained mandibular overdentures versus conventional complete dentures.

Materials And Methods: Part 2 of this paper reports on the outcome after 7 years of denture use, using additional questionnaires.

Results: Patients with implant-stabilized overdentures continued to be more satisfied with their mandibular dentures and their diet than those using conventional complete dentures.
